Looking for a system. Can't really find and review sites online. Besides Vivant and ADT I'm sure there are others am not aware of. Who do you guys use, what is your setup, what is your cost, and any recommendations?

Thanks.

Ahh, just remembered this site has a Home and Garden sub forum. Can a Mod please move? Thanks.

Keep in mind, an unmonitored system gets you ZERO reduction on your home owners insurance. The break that i get from my insurance costs makes the monthly monitoring about 10 bucks a month. WELL worth it IMO, espically when something goes wonkey and i can call somebody to have them fix it.

here is another option. Frontpoint http://www.consumeraffairs.com/homeowners/frontpoint-security.html..... Good reviews but I can't personally vouch myself

Thanks, put a call in for a quote. Has anyone on this forum used them?

Search for simplisafe and you'll find almost 2 dozen similar threads.

I would go with Panasonic or simplisafe:

Thanks, would have been good for my younger self. but I don't want to have to maintain the system myself.

Top Ten Reviews... "Methodology"

I use the TTR as a starting point, when I can't find comparison reviews elsewhere.
Of course they don't compare every product or service, but it's a good place to start.

Cool. Learned something new.

Deciding between Protect America and Frontpoint.

If you don't mind ... could you post what your decision was and the reason why? I too am contemplating a security system in the next 3-6 months

When we built our house we had ADT wire the house, glass break, hidden detectors, and extra monitors. We did sign a 2 year contract. We calculated it out and decided that their labor for the equipment and labor is worth a 2 year contract. They had a special going on at a home show. After two years, we decided to self monitor to get rid of the monthly charge. We had to get a new control panel and with labor cost about $500. We have had that for about 7 or 8 years now and really like it. The best part is no monthly charges. We live in a neighborhood where crime is rare and the neighbors watch each others houses. This might not be for everyone, but for us, it was that extra sense of protection.

I use Frontpoint and like it a lot. Installation is all wireless and they have lots of sensors. I got a bundle from Angies List on discount and then added a few more sensors to it.

Monitoring is great but also consider the response time of the local PD. I'll give you a hint, it's not as fast as you think....
