I heard about ATT naked DSL offer. I wonder if I drop the phone service and only use naked DSL, would the alarm/security sytem still work or any problems/interferences?

I don't have the contact number of the company atm so I thought I would ask ATOTers if anyone done that (naked DSL and alarm system). TIA>

Depends on the company. Some offer alternative solutions either by cell phones, VOIP, etc and some don't.

edit: BTW, you may not have to drop you home phone. I called AT&T and asked for their Fast Access DSL Direct for my current speed (3.0mb). I was offered basic phone (phone line only, no caller id, no call-waiting, etc) and DSL for $24/month for the first 6 months and $43/month afterwards. This is a bargain considering DSL only is $42.95/month.

We have ADT at my work and I'm fairly certain that you need a land line. Your box stays in communication with the company throughout the day. If one of your zones goes off it needs a reliable way to contact the company. What alarm company are you using?

Thanks for all the replies. I have cellphone and my romates also have two..therefore 3 cell phones just in case. Just want to be sure the alarm will work if intruder is coming in.

Effowe - the company I am using now is Interface

Queasy - If I can get drop the land line completely and able to use the alarm system via cell, I refer to do that. Keep in mind that I live in BFE and not in big city so no good broadband deals ($20 or less for DSL in Dallas, etc.). Thanks for the tip. I will see if ATT local will have anything to say.

My brother in law and sister have ADT and do not have a home phone (land) line. I don't know how it works, but that's the case. I know if the alarm goes off, they call his cell. And it works..because my niece set off the alarm and they called pretty quickly.

Probably, but our alarm system has a cell phone back-up system in case the phone lines get cut, so you MIGHT be able to set it up that way by default.

QFT, I have ADT and no land line service. You can get a cell unit, you have to pay more a month but it can be done.
