home school or public school?

I am homeschooling my kids at the moment. It wasn't my original plan, but as Unexpurg8d said in an earlier post, it is the most exclusive private school around. 🙂

We are having a wonderful time and far exceeding the public school standards.

Depends upon the public school in the area. If it was a public school in a rural to mid sized city, then I would definitely go Public.

If it was in a large city (500,000 +), then I would seriously consider private.

OK, now that I know the question....

The public school system in my county is pathetic. The schools have been critically overcrowded for as long as I can remember. They pack 'em in like sardines! Even my AP classes were overcrowded. I dropped out of high school and went to college instead.

Until they manage to build enough schools to serve the new communities they are constantly building in my part of the world, it's private school or homeschooling.

:disgust::|:frown:

Judging from my experience at both private and public schools, I would say public. I especially wouldn't home-school in rural areas with low population density because for these kids public school is the best way to meet people/socialize.

I also think how is the public school in your surrounding area. But home schooling isn't always the best choice. There are alot more resources in school, with teachers who have more expierence.

I go to private school, its easy for me and I get me a pretty good education, I think 🙂

But I can't speaketh English vary wel

😛

Public school so that the kids can at least interact with lots of other kids and get a taste of how college will be (sort of). . . .

I knew a kid that was home schooled, and he joined our band and played drums with me.

I felt like I corrupted him so bad 😱 ... 😉 THat lil guy watched MTV and heard all those naughty words in 1 week .. heheh

public schools in my county aren't that bad

I was homeschooled through middleschool, as my parents felt that the middleschools around here weren't of a very good quality. It really depends on the teaching quality of the parent. It was awsome for me (I have also never been a real social guy). My dad taught me, and he also taught 4 other students so it wasn't as if I was alone. We started at 9:00, got out at 1:00, and when I went into high-school I was ahead in most areas of study. THe one-on-one attention is a real plus for learning. Of cource, I missed out on a lot of social interaction. It has it's pluses and minuses. For me it worked, for others it won't.

Inner city public school 🙂 Miracles do happen.
I don't understand why it has to be one or the other. I suggest public school, plus home tutoring in important subjects like math and science. Your mileage may vary.

I went to public school. I'vve yet to meet a private school graduate who got more out of high school than me and my friends got outta public. As for home schooling it seems to me most people who do home schooling are delinquents of some kind. At least everyone I know has been.
As for colleges though, private schools are better. there are 19 private universities ranked higher than the #1 public university which is UC Berkeley.

Private Catholic school!!!!!

People with the money to buy good liquor and other stuff 😉 and the girls are very kind.

I'd say base the decision on the child. Home schooling is going to give them more individual attention, so if a lack of social interaction with peers during school hours doesn't outweigh the benefits of the one-on-one-ness, then go for it. Public schools do introduce students to a wider diversity of cultures and ideas (usually), but don't have the resources nor "expertise" of private schools. I went to public school and was happy with the experience, but that's just me.

As for college, all I can say is this: base your decision on what campus, student body, and style of classes suits your interest. Ranking should be one of the last considerations you take into account.
