Home poker tourney: How much to tip the host?

JEDI

Lifer
Won 1st ($1000) in a 30player home poker tourny.
What's the norm to tip the host?

edit:
no rake

edit2:
host bought all the food/non-alcoholic softdrinks. everyone chipped in $5.

i was more thinking about the time to organize the event, and the setup/cleanup afterwards.

Whatever you want, but about $50 seems fair if he's not pulling in anything otherwise. How did everyone pay for the beer/food?

What was the buy in? How many places did it pay, and what were the pay-outs? If you guys each bought in for $50, and he paid 3 places ( Such as $1,000, $300, and $200), then he didn't make anything on it. Figure it out. If he took a cut, then I wouldn't tip him at all. If he did not rake any $, then I would tip him $25-50 for food, drinks, etc... (I would tip the host something whether I won or not - If he provided all of the drinks and snacks).

Hosts don't get tipped. Poker tourneys are for fun, not profit. Do you tip hosts of parties?

OP is just trying to be generous/considerate to the host for having it at his place/setting it up.

Doesn't sound like the host once asked for a tip/fee nor was he trying to set up a poker night for profit.

You never rake in a tournament. It's usually fee based.

I tipped my dealer $195 when I won my last tourney for $2195 but that's because I was feeling generous. A $100 tip would have been more than acceptable. In your case, I think $50 is plenty; $100 if you are feeling generous.

Typical ATOT no class children in this thread. I never tip less than 20%, period. If the person deserves a tip, they deserve 20% or more. Anything less is just an insult.

It's different over here. a 1% tip is fine, just leave £1 or something if you have to tip. I usually don't.
