I am planning on setting up a phoneline network. I have 3 computers in my house and want to connect all of them together and share internet between all of them. I plan on buying 3 phonline NIC cards and installing one in each machine. Then i will connect all the pc's to my second line. I have DSL on my second line as well. Now what do i need to share the DSL on all 3 machine's. I know i have to buy a router, but a regular router won't work with HOMEPNA as I am told. What special HOMEPNA router do i have to buy?? Also, how do i setup the router, i connect the dsl modem to my phoneline and then connect the ethernet data coming from my modem to the special homepna router. From there what do i do??? Do i connect the router to the pc with the dsl modem on it and will everything be configured for hsaring or what????

DSL modem --> router --> HomePNA bridge --> phone line --> computers

or

DSL modem --> router with built in HomePNA --> phone line --> computers

or

DSL modem --> PC#1 (Ethernet) with ICS --> HomePNA card --> phone line --> other computers

Phone, DSL, and HomePNA all work fine ON THE SAME LINE.

EDIT:

By the way, I hear the Linky router with HomePNA built in doesn't work that well yet. YMMV. However, the NetGear is now out. Look at Practically Networked Tuesday for a review.

I have both HomePNA and wireless at home.

I think i want to get a router with HOMEPNA built in. What do you mean by router with homepna to phoneline. i don't understand that. Shouldn't the dsl modem be plugged into the phoneline, and then the dsl modem is connected to the homepna router and then the router is connected to my NIC????

HomePNA runs through the phone lines. It can coexist with POTS (voice) and DSL on the same line, because they all use separate frequency ranges.

So, signal from your telco will come in through your phone line and go to your DSL modem. It will "convert" the data to 10BaseT, ie. it has a 10BaseT jack. You will then run a patch cable from the 10BaseT jack to your router's WAN input.

The router (with built in HomePNA) will then send out info out its Ethernet jacks or HomePNA jack. If using HomePNA, you will then run a cable from your HomePNA jack back to the same phone jack that the DSL is plugged into.

For everyone phone jack that is on the same line as the HomePNA, you can plug a computer into it. In other words, your phone system acts like a giant hub for the whole house.
