Home Plug connector plus router won't work

I'm not even sure this is the proper place for this. We upgraded our satellite receiver a few weeks ago and the installer left a home-plug-to-ethernet connector with me and told me to call a certain number for instructions on how to hook it up after I got a router. I found a Lynksys BEFSR41. (This is something new, I think, that lets you watch TV on your computer but then again I'm behind the times on most things.) I did that, four times. The guy doesn't call me back. The satellite company has no idea what I'm talking about (eight people I've talked to). The DSL company won't talk to me because it's a connection to the satellite co. I've followed all the instructions, several times over, and still can't get a connection. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

He gave you one or two home plug adapters? You need two to complete a connection from the Satellite receiver to the router (through power lines). Why not connect the router straight to the receiver or does it need to be in another room?

He gave me one. Do I need to go buy another? Is there a certain type of router I need? The TV and the computer/hookup are in different rooms, adjacent. If I need 2, why do all the instructions just talk about 1? And how would the adapter be, since it can't be plugged into the receiver. Sorry to be so inquisitive but I'm trying to picture it in my mind.

The satellite receiver may have a Home Plug unit built in. Maybe a brand/model number and search would reveal this information. If the receiver has build in Home Plug, then yes, you would only need one to connect to the router. As for router type, don't know if it would matter or not.

From reading the manual and other things on the Net, I get the idea that a home plug is built into the receiver so that one extra is all I need. If I could just plug in the E.net cable and 2nd plug, I could tell in short order. Now my problem is I don't have enough plugs! But my handyman hubby will take care of that.
