Im at a customers house who has Verizon service for his home phone line...

When the main line rings, it just does one short ring every few seconds....

Now - ring..............................................................ring.................................................
Instead of the normal - riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing..............riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing

He does have distinctive ring on that line as well, but same problem with that one...

Now - ring..ring..............................................................ring..ring................................................
Normal - riiiiiiiiiiiiing riiiiiiiiiiiiing..................................riiiiiiiiiiing riiiiiiiiiiiing....................

The problem is that the rings are too short for the fax/printer to pick up the line. Its really strange..

Tried multiple phones, checked the outside device (works fine out there)......

Any ideas?

"...checked the outside device..."

You mean the FAX will pickup when plugged directly into the service connection?

Well no, but it would. We tried using a regular phone plugged into the service connection outside and we called the number from our cell phone and the phone rang just like normal, not short/cut off. It almost has a stacatto feel to it.

If the customer has the equivalent of SBC's LINE-BACKER Maintenance Service, you can get them to screw around with it for free. That type of service option is usually included in a calling package. The customer probably has it.

If you want to mess with it, start disconnecting sections of the house until the problem disappears. Then, you can break it down to the device or wire that's giving you trouble.

Hmm... I'm sure calling your phone service's customer service didn't work for you and that's why you're posting here on AT, right?

Actually ass, it was the sunday before a holiday and Verizon didn't seem to have many people manning the phones. We hung up after 25 minutes on hold. :)

That sucks. Too bad you didn't hold on longer. Their wait time was 26 minutes.
