Video of the robbery in the link.

SARASOTA COUNTY - When Army Staff Sgt. Eddie Peoples returned to Sarasota this week on leave, he never expected to find himself using the combat skills he'd honed during four years in Iraq.

But he sprang into action Tuesday afternoon when a bank robber hijacked his family fishing trip and pointed a gun at Peoples' 4- and 6-year-old sons.

Peoples had promised to take his sons fishing while he was on leave from his base in Italy. They were on their way and had made a quick stop at Bank of America when a man walked into the branch at 3600 Bee Ridge Road with a black handgun and demanded cash from the tellers.

At first, Peoples' sons thought the robbery was a joke and began giggling. That got the robber's attention, so Peoples quickly tucked them behind some lobby chairs.

"The only thing that went through my mind was, 'Don't let them get hurt,'" Peoples said.

The robber, a bearded white man about 6 feet tall and 250 pounds, went to each of the four teller stations, calm and collected. He instructed tellers to put money in a maroon recycled grocery bag, and to leave out any of the trackers or dye packs that could explode and make the cash useless.

The robber kept his eye on Peoples, 34, who has the thick neck and muscular arms of a professional soldier.

The robber waved his gun in Peoples' direction and warned that "the big black guy" should not try anything.

As the robber prepared to flee the bank, he pointed the gun at Peoples' sons, Ikaika and Kioni, who were peering through the chairs.

Peoples does not remember the robber's exact words, but said the man warned others in the bank not to try anything "or the kid will get it."

It was the wrong thing to say to a battle-tested veteran of Iraq and Kuwait who won a medal for helping repel a mortar and ground attack.

"When he threatened my son," Peoples said, "I could not let that pass."

Hopefully the bank will give him some sort of reward...but then again it is Bank of America so they wouldn't be smart enough to recognize that as a good PR move.

Think this was the guy that said, "It wasn't quite a fair fight. He should have brought a friend." lol

The next story will be of the rental company charging him for the damage to his rental van.

I feel like a 5 year old wrote this shit article.

Anyway, if he was so concerned about his kid he wouldn't have left him to go after the robber. lol.

That would be PR suicide.

Not to mention that you aren't at fault when your vehicle isn't moving and someone else backs into it...

Not really. Inside a bank is probably one of the safest places for your kids.

It's clear you are a fucktard when all you get out of the story is poor writing for a 'newsflash' and a hero being a bad dad.

I grow tired of grammar nazis posting in news articles that were put up almost in real time. Most news staff can write way beyond the masses when they are focused on a major story. Today with the internet, it's first to 'press'...there is no time to be picky.

Unless you are still in middle school or less, chances are you will understand the article.

It's like the asshats on forums that go after typos and the like. Many here that post are juggling job/family/etc...Most are full-timers. IMHO the 'many' > 'most' as far as anything of value being gathered.

Bank Of America only rewards illegal aliens.
He won't get anything from them.

I hope so.

I understand the rage at your kids being threatened, but going after the guy after he left the premises isn't really in line with protecting your kids.

When you're a trained soldier in the profession of killing people, what do you think he should have done? Stand there and potentially let the guy pull the trigger?

FFFFfffffffffffff.....
