home networking through wall plug

hi guys, i have a question that primarily is networking related but it involves ps3.

My house is newly built in 2009 and in my house I have wall plugs that is both ethernet and phone-line capable. I was wondering if it's possible to connect a line to the wall plug in my room and connect a line in my living room to my ps3? Will my ps3 get wired internet connection?

thank you

It sounds like your house was pre-wired with ethernet. The cables are all likely going to a single location within your home. In new homes I have seen them usually in the master bedroom closet or the garage. You will need to find this before anyone here can help you further.

Assuming you have all those plugs running to a switch of some kind, and a router connected yeah it will work just fine.

well there is a box in the master bedroom that has all the switches I think. When we installed directv, the technician asked for a box of switches in the master bedroom, I don't know if it's that one. There are two plugs in my room, one is marked with a blue square around the plug and one isn't. currently the one with a blue square is connected to my AT&T Router/modem with a phone line. Can someone paint me a picture as to how to hook this up if its....hookable ^^.

edit: I checked the switchbox in the master bedroom... and there are phone line switches and an ethernet cable hanging freely in there.

edit: The switchbox has 2 empty RJ-45 plugs but no phone line. How will I connect with no phone line plug anywhere near that switchbox when i'm using ATT DSL?

I think it would help everyone here if you could upload a picture of this device in your master bedroom and another picture of how your current ATT DSL modem/router (whatever you have) is hooked up

To the OP: This is the typical layout the others are describing. How does this compare to yours?

how much more clearly can we say this, if you have all those cable runs connected to a switch and a router connected to the switch and the modem it will work, what dont you understand?

I just thought of something. It would be stupid, but what if the switch was enclosed into the wall? Then, all you would be able to see from the outside is a WAN plug and a RJ-45 to connect a router to the switch.

Sounds a lot like what the OP described, 1 blue and 1 grey jack in the master bedroom
