Home Network Questions

I have a home network. Recently added a WinXP Pro machine to the "mix".

I'd like to connect / browse the internet on this Win XP Pro machine with the internet connection machine that currently connects to the internet by dialup.

I have been using Wingate (version is unknown at the time of this writing but I think it's in the 4.4, 4.5 range) 3 machine license and can't seem to find whether the version that I'm running will work on Win XP Pro. Still checking that.

I was never able to get ICS to work on the gateway machine (Dell 700MHz - Win98se - dialup), hence 3rd party software.

Wingate is a little shakey. Gateway machine needs to have a connection established prior to any connection established on a client, i.e, client can't get gateway to dial. Client can cause gatweway to disconnect.

First a simplet question - How do you assign a fixed IP address in Windows XP Pro? I think I need this in order for me to install Wingate client, if I decide to keep using Wingate.

Should I try something else? Sygate ??

IYO - Wingate or Sygate and why?

IYO - Is there another configuration that anyone might suggest?

why dont you use your xp box as the ICS (internet Connection Sharing) ! It is also very easy to setup.

For logistical reasons - I don't want to be moving machines. The XP machine is starting out as a gaming machine and the gateway machine is a home office machine.

You might look at WinProxy -- similar to WinGate -- 3 user license is not that expensive and the new version definitely works with XP.
