Home Network Question

Ok let me try and make this as small a post as I can here.

What I have is 2 computers networked together with a Linksys 4 port router to share my cable access. I had the 1st, my computer on the direct line to the cable then my wife wanted a computer, built her one had some problems with bad NIC got a new one and all seemed to be working well. Well its not her computer only seems to work when mine is on. Both are running XP pro, and plugged directly into the router, but if mine is off she gets the no network cable attached message in the tool bar. Any ideas or if you need more info feel free. Thanks for any help.

Yes I cloned the mac address from the 1st computer to the router, but then again the 1st computer works fine, it is the 2nd that is haveing the problems if the 1st is not on.

Assuming that your Router stays ON when you shut off the main computer.

I don?t know if the following advice will work.

Few weeks ago some one complained about a similar error.

Someone else suggested to open: Control Panel / Network Connections right click on properties click on configure NIC, see if there is a Power Saver capacity, if there is one switch it off.

Your Mileage May Vary.

Please post the results, otherwise we will never no!!!

Wow it pains me that I can be that dumb......but yes the router was connected to my power director so thus when I turned off the computer low and behold the router went with it. It was behind some pictures my wife put up tp make the desk not look so geeky and I didn't notice it was off. Sometimes you can't see the forrest thru the trees huh, that whole look for the simplest reason huh? And to think that I ride the air traffic controlers at work when they forget to turn on equipment.....it was a day of humble pie for me, but thanks everyone for the help. 😉
