ok, i'm looking to get an entertainment system in my room. right now this is what i'm looking at
TV stand - 200 Bucks
27" TV - 500 Bucks
those 2 i'm pretty set on, what i need now are ideas for the other stuff
DVD Player (1 disc)- 200 Bucks
should i go w/ a home theater system or a reciever and speakers separate. (300)
i don't want any stuff that holds more than 1 disc at a time. person preference. and ideas on what equip i should get?

Exactly what is your budget for the other parts?
Stand - $200
TV - $500
DVD Player - $200???
Rest - $300???

Is the primary use of this going to be movies or music?

mainly movies, but music when i'm just relaxing in my room, yeah budget is 200 for DVD player, and 300 for home theater...i saw 1 for like 200 cheap i know but i'm not looking to shell out huge money, i still live at home, can't blast it @ 2am..i guess i could go up to 400 for the speakers/reciever or whatever. and now for the really tough part....i'd perfer the equpiment to be silver...

Okay, $200 is perfectly fine for a DVD player. $300 is bit a low for a Receiver/Speaker setup though, but I'm sure something can be found.

A good site to check out is either Crutchfield or OneCall. Crutchfield is good for window shopping, but it tends to be overpriced. OneCall has great customer service (I spent a fairly large amount there when building my home theater setup).

Getting silver for the components might be a bit hard since most come in black. That might also screw up your budget plans.

i just found this dvd player on crutchfield....any comments on it?
200 Bucks - DVD

and this is the theater system i found cheap...any comments, i don't think it's great but it's not too expensive i guess i could go to 400 but i'm not looking to invest major munny in the speakers and reciever yet.
200 Bucks

Save $200 and buy This TV from Sam's club. It's a Samsung rebadge.

Then you could get something like this denon system for another $700.

i didn't see PIP listed for that TV and that's 1 thing i want which is in the toshiba i picked. and idk about the denon because i want my dvd player to be separate than the reciever/theater

Heh. PIP. That's like the last thing I look for in a TV. Sorry 🙂 But you are correct, this one does not have it.

People actually use PIP?! :Q

And all this time I thought it was just another "selling point"...

i really want PIP...as you saw in the movie "100 girls" his roomie plays playstation in the big window, then the PIP screen he has porn playing LOL...

Talk about multi-tasking... 😉

The silver req. is going to kill you. I don't know if I've seen any sort of reciever/dvd setup that was silver that wasn't integrated.

PIP is a nice toy, but its very much a gimmick. About the only time I ever used it was for multiple sports game. Too bad I can't use it now that I have SatTV and only one tuner in the receiver.

Here is a nice receiver/speaker pair from OneCall. Its a bit more expensive, but I think its probably the best way to go. This way you could upgrade as you get more money, etc...

Here is the "Home Theater in a Box" section at OneCall, which is what you are looking for. There are quite a few DVD included ones that are silver, and thats something you wanted.

I would stay away from Magnavox, Bose, and the cheapo systems. Try to get Sony (even that is bleh), Onkyo, H/K, Yamaha, Pioneer, etc...

Heh, in college once we had the following setup:
Big TV for PS2 football game. Medium TV for real football game. Medium TV for porn.

The funniest part was when you were playing the PS2 and you heard a chear from the rest of the guys, you had no idea which TV was involved.

Although I detest sony, this package seems to offer a lot of what you want.

Silver, individual components, single disk, ect. Reasonably priced.

that is the exact link i was going to post... 😉 if you go with the samsung rebadged tv from Sams and your dvd player and stand, you'll be set for a pretty nice HT in your room.

exit: bah! forgot you wanted PIP... soo, find a few extra bucks 🙂 honestly, i have PIP on my tv and have yet to use it.

exit huh? i'll use PIP when i'm watching tv weather channel. SNOW RULES, when i'm playing a game movie. or if i'm listening to a music channel then just a movie or something...i have usues ok, so my dvd stand and tv, and that receiver/speakers....i dunno if it'd fit...i have a ps2 to put in the stand too i was thinking a reciever the height of the dvd player so i got some thinking to do, i knew that'd be the toughest part of the decision. and i'm picky🙂

This package from Pioneer also seems to fit the bill. Silver, sort-of separate components, right price range, plays MP3 CD's and its not Sony. The speakers also look like they would sound better than the Sony (separate mid and high drivers).
