Home design?

Anyone have cool stuff in their home they'd like to show off? I have lived in my apt for three years now and half the furniture is still the crap that the last occupant "left for me" (i.e., was too lazy to move or throw away). It's really hideous stuff.

You ever get used to living in ugly surroundings, and then one day look around and realize just how stupid it looks? The prev. occupant also mounted these hideous shelves in every room of the place, at haphazard alignments, and heights, none of them fit into their surroundings. I took the ones in one room down, and I have all these screw holes, and 4ft long pencil markings which she somehow used to help mount them. My bed is fucking ugly, and I have a tall narrow dresser that looks like it was made in The New Yankee Workshop (except worse, and unfinished).

I don't mind doing minor repair work myself (like installing some better shelves, only in one part of the house where I want to put dvd's, cd's, and video games).

I don't know where to start though. I basically need my apartment to be pimped, but I'm not sure I can design or think of what needs to be done/purchased on my own. I will post pics opf the whole place this weekend I suppose, and see what you guys think.

For now, please post pics of your pad if you think it's well put together, or send links to examples of nice design (magazines, websites for that kind of stuff maybe).

what, mounted on a wall, or installed as an actual window to the outside?

It's just sitting on a shelf. I've been wanting to get it framed for a while now, but it weighs about 30 pounds so I've been to lazy to take it to the frame shop.
