Home depot rant!

They're only good for mass quantities of common items for home projects.
That really depends on the location. NYC is so populous that we have quite a few Home Depots so I've seen a lot of them. Many of them carry mass quantities of common items used on commercial projects, too, but the twain tend not to meet - meaning, the stores that cater heavily to pros tend to lack in consumer-oriented goods (at least of similar types), and the ones catering primarily to DIYers tend to lack in the more commercially-oriented stuff... And pros seem to be quite fond of both places, though more for their incredibly liberal return policy than anything else, and that certainly does have a lot going for it...

We have fewer Lowe's, which, here anyway, tend to be larger and carry a broader range of inventory, but otoh, they're much shorter-staffed and finding someone to help (with anything at all) is usually a nightmare...

This thread has been a roller coaster and I'm emotionally exhausted. I'm having a hard time arguing against always wanting more batteries though, because fuck I love batteries, and it's usually cheaper to get them with the tool. I'm siding with the disgraced OP.

I can't read this whole thing... We've all agreed the op is a fool, right?

Only two or so of you have addressed the no chalk in the chalk marker. Don't just focus on the battery issue.
That's like buying a pen with no ink. Well silly me I should have bought the ink to go with my pen.

No. It's a holder. Would you buy a cigarette holder and get the cigarettes with it? Buy an iPod holder and get an iPod? Beer coozy with the beer already in it? Hat stand with hats? Pocket protector with a slide rule? Wallet with money and credit cards already inside? Get where I'm going with this?

Oh, and BTW, if you buy an expensive fountain pen it doesn't come with ink.

So yes, we've all agreed that OP is a fool and it's on both the battery issue and the chalk issue.

Seriously why the fuk would I want a saw that doesn't come with the battery. Or a chalk marker with no chalk. It's a ploy, hoping I don't notice so I have to go back and buy more of their shit!
Seriously it doesn`t matter what you want -- LEARN TO READ!!!!

I was going to suggest that giving up while you were no further behind than you already were might be the better part of valor... but I see it's too late for that.<sigh>

Don't just focus on the battery issue.
😵 Do you by any wild chance make a habit of walking around in the underbrush along the edges of lakes during duck hunting season, wearing camouflage, and quacking?😛

PS: It's just a thought, but you might consider running any further posts to this thread by your wife before you hit "Post Reply".😉

PPS: Did your wife have any comment about you buying a chalk holder without chalk, too?

Bare tools usually leads to some perverse incentives--essentially to get you to stick with a particular brand of power tools.

So, you get pricing structures like:
Bare drill: $60

Starter pack: Bare drill, 1 battery, charger: $90

Combo pack: Bare drill, 2 batteries, charger, circular saw, reciprocating saw, flashlight, bag: MSRP $200, but is on sale or rebated to $85 every other week.

Yeah, that pricing structure sounds about right. I find having two batteries for a combo set is usually sufficient for homeowner use. Of course, my Makita set is NiMH and one battery is shot. As nice as it is I hate the idea of buying more crappy batteries. Too bad nobody has made an aftermarket lithium battery. That would be sweet.
