This is a rebate for having $1,000 and up in "at home services" . This would seem to be installation and/or repair. doesn't appear to apply to purchases of goods. Requires copy of agreement for at home services.

Home Depot has had the worst prices, by like a factor of two on all the install work I have run past them. Typical was a roofing job, their quote like $8k, average $5.5k, cheapest $4k, all contractors using that same materials actually sold at Home Depot.

You would expect them to be cheaper? I have first hand knowledge in this. You go to the store and pay them $25-$50 to get an estimate. They send out a guy to do the estimate. They pay him typically $50 to give an estimate. He leaves, writes up an estimate (more than likely higher than he normally would give), then submits it to HD. HD then adds a mark-up (i.e. profit) of anywhere between 50-100%.

This reply is in no way meant to crap this thread, but has anyone noticed how bad the service/prices are getting at Home Depot? Last weekend I had to fix a plumbing problem the house-replumbers screwed up. I get to HD and walk around for 45 minutes before I can catch someone to help me. "Sorry, not my department." I am told repeatedly. FINALLY I get someone to point me in the right direction. He picks the parts, I pay for them and away I go ... only to come back an hour later because they don't fit! Just add all my time/driving to the cost of the parts to see that I paid WAY to much for this crummy service.

If you are interested in seeing HD from the other side of the street, check this link: Linky

It make for some very interesting reading.

I have had two bad experiences recently with Home Depot's home services. First I had a decorative storm door installed in November. It was fine for a few weeks and then the screws started coming loose. To make things worse, its been really windy the past few days and the storm door blew open and knocked down the banister on my porch. They are going to repair both so that is one good thing.
This past weekend I had someone form Home Depot come out to give me a fence estimate. For 96 sq ft, they gave me a price of close to $3500. I asked for a breakdown of the estimate and the estimator told me that he wasnt allowed to do that. Who in their right mind would pay someone to do work and have no breakdown? They could be charging me $500 for materials and $3000 for labor.
