Home Depot B&M YMMV: Homelite 25cc Gas Trimmer UT20006

Here it is, listed at $99.99.

My store had a ton of them in stock (17).

I think they are last year's model. They had a bunch of trimmers on clearance. They had electric ones that were $15.99 and $19.99 (50-60% Off).

Oh, and it is in Consumer Reports as a Best Buy.

Where was this 2 years ago? 😛 That's an awesome deal. I used to have a Homelite just like this one. It was a great weedeater and definitely was lighter than some others I've had. I remember it started pretty easily too....even after it had a few years of age on it.

I'm tempted to get one, but my father-in-law bought me a 4-cycle troybilt just last Christmas. I don't know if I can go back to a 2-cycle until it dies.

I have an older version of this and it is a solid runner. Got under water in Katrina, but got it cleaned up and it runs as good as ever.

I couldn't find it on Homedepot.com. It is in the US though... I am in Ohio.

Homelites are that good? I was going to splurge on a Stihl.

Homelites are tough, let me tell you my story.

Quite some time ago I purchased a Homelite trimmer from a local Homelite dealer (read expensive) figuring it would be better than the bargain basement discount store models.

After a year or two I would have to fight to get it to start. After doing all the require maintenance, etc. it still gave me trouble. One hot afternoon I pulled on that bitch for 10 minutes and finally snapped.

A gave that SOB a throw worthy of a gold medal. It went 20 feet in the air and when it landed it hit on the spool end, bounded 10 feet in the air and landed on its side. Disgusted that it didn?t break I smashed the motor part into a large oak tree. Ahhh, satisfaction.

I then went inside and put on some goin to town clothes. I told my wife, ?Yeah the string trimmer broke. I?m going to town to get a new one.? She smiled and said ?Yeah, I saw it break?.. twice?

Anyway went and bought a 4 cycle Ryobi and haven?t looked back. That was 11 years ago and it is till going strong despite heavy usage and no mixing gas and oil.

Just got back from HD and the US prices are $59 for a Ryobi and $69 for Homelite. It appears that BOTH of those were Consumer Reports best buys. I'm going to go back tonight and pick up the Ryobi. There were some more expensive ($100+) in the clearance rack, but I didn't pay much attention, as I am a cheap SOB. 🙂

Thx for the heads-up, OP!

And FWIW, this was in South Bend, IN, and there were quite a few there. In fact, there was a sign that said "Gas trimmers as low as $39!" I didn't see any, and I ask a passing employee, and he didn't see any either, and didn't appear to care to want to look.

I bought one of these from the Depot last year for whacking the little stuff and around the trees, flowers, etc. Its small enough for my 11 year old to handle. It's a good buy and great for trimming wayward grass and small stuff. I have no complaints at all.

For the big stuff I break out the trusty Stihl.

Local HD tried to look up, and could not find.....this is listed on the .ca site.....I guess Canada. It is not on www.homedepot.com. Do some of the US stores carry the Canadian stuff? or has it allready been removed from the site?

My home depot has tons of these in stock in Northwest Houston, Texas area.
They were $64 and there is a straight shaft one for $8x.xx

I will prob. go back and get one today.

Are straight shafts better for taller people? I am 6'4" and not sure if I would have to bend over too much with a curved one. (I'm not gay, lol (just reread sentence and sounds a little fruity))
