Just stoping by :) I used to train those forklift drivers Nitemare. It is so sad how easy they give out licences. It is insanely hard trying to do forklift work in a strore with 200+ people in it, of which 30 are kids not being watched by their parents. So they run at the forklift thinking, "OMG! Wow! a Forklift!" Then of course, they like hiding under sh!t and in the racking where you put 6000 lb bunks of lumber.

During the course of my employment, I had 4 incidents that required me to get a drug test because I damaged something with a forklift.

1. I dropped a bunk of fencing because a father felt like runinng up to me, past the barricade, past my spotter screaming at him, so he could put his son on my lap WHILE I AM FRICKING DRIVING. WTF is wrong with you?!

2. I loaded 50 sheets of drywall in an s-10 (about 2600 lbs) at the customers (and managers) insistance. Truck made it over the first speed bump before one of the springs snapped.

3. Crumpled a tailgate of a truck when he backed in though the front loading door about 50' (into the damn building) while I was unloading a delivery truck.

4. I was hit by a car of 2 kids that felt like drag racing behind the store. He couldn't slow down fast enough around the corner and hit me at about 30. well, he hit the bunk I was carrying. 16,000 lb diesel forklift carying 2 6500 lb bunks of lumber doesn't move too much when you get hit by a wussy car :p

What did we learn while being a forklfit trainer? Customers are idiots, and being a forklift driver in a retail enviroment is harder than hell.

And yet you still had to get drug tested because of this....

I'm referring to the people who are afraid of the machine yet still have to drive it because there are only a handful of them certified(Not me of course...I only drive one when one of our certified people has difficulty maneuvering it or getting something down or after hours)....always being spotted by a trained associate of course and always outside.

Customers are idiots even when they are not around forklift drivers. They let their children run rampant around the store, up the ladders, in the racks, playing with the saws and razor blades. I could understand it if it was Toys R Us or Walmart, but come on its a Home Improvement store which was not designed to be a nursery for your kids.

just a lil update i have left HD and have been hired on by Lowes. They are paying me 1.63 more an hour.
I also am a little upset in the way HD handled my 2 week notice. I gave it to them on a friday. I gave a copy to my Dept Head and the ASM on duty. They said they hate to see me go but they understand that family comes first and if I am being offered $2 more an hour I have to do whats best for me. (I did not tell them that I was going to Lowes) then 30min later i was called ito the office by a different ASM (after my Dept Head and the other ASM was off and asked me how I would feel if today was my last day. I said that if that was there decision then there was nothing I could do. He then told me that was good because they were letting me go. This was after another ASM said my 2 weeks would be fine. Then he preceeded to harrass me about if I were going to lowes, how much were they payin, when were they going to open, so on and so forth. I only told him I have another job, yet he preceeded to ask about Lowes.

FWIW,
Home Depot--Tony Stewart
Lowes-Jimmie Johnson

Personally, I like shopping at HD more, but Lowes is based where I live, so I would prefer if all of you shop at Lowes :p
