Home cooked meals

I'm starting to love it more each day. My older sister made me stuffed peppers yesterday. I can get used to this.

If I have a home cooked meal, it's usually because I made it, and that's not so fun. I didn't mind cooking when my daughter was here to share it, but I can hardly be arsed to cook for myself.

Thats my sentiments precisely.

My sister is kind of like our family historian. If she can make our Mom's potato salad I will have reached nirvana. We shall see.

Let me know if you need your salad tossed.

I like food, but, cooking can very often take too much time. When I can, I like to make larger meals. My GF makes an amazing mac salad.

my Mom had this weird egg & potato salad. I would literally eat it for days. Not talking as a side...i would eat exclusively over everything.

I cook the same 2-3 things pretty much every night during the week and eat the same thing that I prepare for lunch like 4 days a week. Weekends we eat out a lot which is a bad habit but for the most part I eat well during the week.

I got carried away making hummus and wound up with 2kg of hummus, ate nothing but hummus for a week.

10/10 would exagerate again

I'm the same way, it's so much work for just 1 meal. When I do cook I try to make stuff that can be made in a big batch and frozen but in general I don't cook much. I really should try to cook more though, but I just can't be bothered. When I try to learn a new recipe I just get frustrated at how complicated it seems and pickup the phone and order pizza. Half the ingredients I don't know what they are or what half the terminology means, so it turns into an extensive research project. Screw that!

But seriously I really need to sit down and figure out like 10-20 recipes and just practice and then I can just rotate through the same ones I'm comfortable with. There's a few I do make like spaghetti sauce but do need to learn more variety. Crock pot ones are probably a good bet. Need to eat healthier in general since I'm getting old now so need to eat better before it becomes too late.

no have, but my recipe is:
1. Half kilo dry chickpeas, in water for 24h, then boiled until soft, then washed in cold water.
2. As much garlic as you can tolerate.
3. Tahini from an arabic store.
4. Here it gets weird: parsley and cilantro.
5. Lemon juice aplenty.
6. Black olives, the wrinkly kind, hand-deboned. A whole bunch.
7. Mix and add yoghurt to blend.
8. Olive oil
9. Trust me: ketchup. Heinz. A glass full.
10. Salt n pepa

You'll need pita bread. WASH the pita under water (from 2 sec to 10 sec depending on the brand) and put in toaster still wet. Dont die electrocuted.

Serve with olive oil, salted sliced tomato, onion, bell peppers.

That's not too surprising. A week of groceries for me is about $50. One night out at a restaurant here is about $25 after tip, and spending more is pretty easy.

I have been trying to curb my eating out habit and going with more home cooked meals. It's more work, but it is better for you and saves money (but not time).

I gain weight when I eat out and lose weight when I eat at home....interestingly enough, I eat better and usually more food at home... More veggies, less sugar/sodium...

If you don't cook, try to learn grilling first....do easy stuff that's still good...even if you mess up. Lately, I've been making crack slaw....there was a thread here on it a while back. I buy really good ground beef and chicken from The Fresh Market once a week when it's on sale....then make a few meals with it. Can't go wrong with home-cooked stuff.

We've cut back eating out dramatically and cook almost exclusively now. We have a household of 3 so we make meals that we can take as leftovers for lunch the next day. Takes time, but the wife and I have a system and involve our daughter in some of the more easy tasks. Even though we're "working", it's still a family bond type thing so we enjoy it. And it saves us some money to boot so win/win. Only problem is my family is picky, so it's kinda the same shit every week. When I don't feel like bringing leftovers for lunch, I'll just pack a sandwich for lunch.
