I changed to this instant gourmet healthy coffee I tried. I don't get the jitters anymore, etc. I know you fellow coffee drinkers know what I mean 🙂.

Its kind of expensive (about $.75 per cup) but its easy to make which is what I like.

Here for anyone that gives a rat's arse.

Local grocery near me always has some local roasts that they rotate through, so I try to pick some up when I'm there. Haven't been disappointed yet, otherwise I'll pick up a cheap bag of 8 o'clock if I'm in a pinch.

My guilty pleasure coffee is 100% Kona.

This. As long as my grocery store keeps having it Buy One Get One Free. Just 1-2 cups in the morning. No flavors. No cream or sugar. No froth. No nothing. Just grind and brew.

Check out my site. I often review coffees as well as machines. But on the op's note, I would suggest

8 o'clock is a good value. Not the absolutely best coffee, but pretty good for the price. Certainly one of the better brands available in most sueprmarkets.

This. But made in a french press. Grind (burr grinder), boild water, 4 scoops, 3 minutes, press and good to go.

Eery so often I'll spring for a varietal in Target, or I'll try something that Publix has, but I haven't gone for Intelligentsia or teh coffee fool in a while (damn good coffee, but shipping is ridiculous, and after all, its just coffee, hard to justify when "good enough" is buy one get one free at $6/lb).

Just got done with a $30/lb bag of Jamaican Blue Mountain. Tasty, but not worth the price. I bought it with some winning from craps, so I don't feel too bad.

I'm drinking a cup of french pressed costa rican stuff now I got a fresh market. $10/lb and pretty damn good.

For someone who enjoys coffee and wants to step up from Dunkin Coffee from the shop what do I need to start brewing at home?

That'll do her.

Kettle (or way to boil water safely)
Grinder (to freshly grind your bean)
Bean (to be ground and brewed)
Press (to seperate coffee and water)

Boil water
Place 3 good heaping spoons in the press.
Pour boiling water into press.
Wait 3 minutes.
Use press mechanism to separate.

you'll want to start with quality beans. go to a coffee shop and try out a few. peet's is the best of the chain stores, but i like my small cafe - excellent quality, a dozen selections and at most $10 for 16 ounces.

grind beans to order, keep it fresh! i don't grind more than 2 pot's worth at a time. i use a small cuisinart grinder ($20-25) available just about everywhere.

i'm a big fan of the french press. i noticed a big jump in quality even compared to expensive drip coffee makers. i recommend bodum coffee pots. mine was $20-25, and considerably better made than my previous one for the same price. specifically, the strainer mesh is very durable and doesn't let coffee grinds get by on the sides. it can be taken apart for thorough cleaning, or just throw it in the dishwasher every once in a while.

with a french press, you'll want a medium grind on the beans - too coarse and you'll lose a lot of the coffee mojo, too fine and you'll get gritty mud. also, the more beans are ground, the hotter they get and the coffee mojo starts to break down. use water 180-190F (just short of boiling if you don't have one of these 😉 ), let it sit for 5 minutes, and enjoy the best coffee you'll ever make.

My last three bags were Magnum Jamaican Blue Mountain blend whole bean from Costco. $10 for two pounds is pretty good. The beans aren't overly oily so I can pour it straight into my super automatic espresso machine without worrying about the oil clogging up my machine.
I love this stuff. I have a pot in my office that I brew almost every morning. Got a couple people that stop in here instead of getting the "Special Blend" made specifically for our building by the local coffee shop from the coffee pot across the hall. 🙂

used to do the store bought Dunkin turbo, but its kinda pricey in my area (8-9 for 11oz)

whatever is on sale (8.50/lb) at the local co-op, grind it with their machine, drip machine at home. if nothing is on sale, i like the organic italian. 9.99/lb.
