Home Button Issues on iPhone4

I have a launch day phone which is out of warranty (obviously)...

About a month ago, my Home Button stopped working...I came across a fix that actually
worked to resolve this issue. Insert the charging cable into the slot and the gently lift up (if the phone were laying flat, you would lifting plastic piece that inserts into the bottom of the phone upwards). Mine makes a slight click sound when I do this. This works beautifully and my home button works properly.

Now it seems that I have to do this every other day. Any one else having a similar Home Button issue?

This is gonna be a PITA until the 5 comes out...

As with all problems with Apple product, try going to an Apple Store, honestly explain your problem, don't cop an attitude, expect nothing and hope for the best.

You may be pleasantly surprised.

I will second what Motionman said. I had the same issue with my iPhone 4 and they swapped it out. Again, this is just anecdotal evidence and your experience might be different 🙂

My wife and I are both having this issue too. I just shake it a lot and it seems to get better for a few days, then the home button stops working again.

Also, one of the two speakers died on mine. Meh, whatever.

Wifes IP4 does this. She stopped putzing with the connector and just deals with the poor response. It only actually seems to do something every other home button press. Upgrade soon so meh...

Same thing happened to me, although I didn't try any workarounds. Got so frustrated I started tossing the damn phone around. Good thing I had a case and screen on it because I ended up trading the darn thing into Radioshack which gave me $175 towards a 4s which happened to be $169 at the time!

Hasn't happened to me since mine is in pretty good condition. I can see how it breaks thought you use that button a lot.

I wish they made the button capacitive or did something like on webOS where you swipe from the across the screen to close apps.

I would try the apple store route, if this is your first time they might replace it. Otherwise, there are youtube videos how to take the iphone apart. Replacing the button should probably be cheap and you can do it yourself if you are feeling handy.

I had this issue with my launch day 32 gig iPhone 4. Was babied and in perfect condition, but the home button would just crap out once a week.

I ended up just paying the $149 + tax to get a new replacement. I've gotten enough free replacements from Apple in the past for other things, so I'm okay with it.

A battery replacement alone would have cost $79, and I've owned the thing for a while.
