Points well taken, but $149 for a pretty friggin cool system is the deal of the century.

If you think those items are that cool you are going to be severely underwhelmed. I have half a dozen of those things and X10 stuff is cheaply made and depending on what your local power is like can be highly unreliable.

Really? :(

I don't see any transievers so you can't recieve wireless commands unless there is one inlcuded with the CM11A (or the new usb one) that you called computer interface. Personally I wouldn't pay 1/3 that price for that selection of equipment. Sets of hundereds of items go on ebay for that much, I remember one a month ago that had something like 100 items that went for around $320.

Hmmm... eBay might be a great option there...

Howdy -
I have over $1000 worth of X10 gear and it works 98% correctly. Using Homeseer as the software side works well for me, any networked terminal in the house can use the web interface without a login, and it can be used from the outside internet as well with a password. There are many events and timers I have created, but you do have to be creative as the technology is so old. For example, x10 switches and lamp modules cannot turn on to a dimmed level without turning on at full brightness first. So to get the effect I want for my "nighttime hallway motion" event, I set up an event that turns on the hallway lights and then dims to 0% at 1am, after everyone is in bed. That way, when someone gets up in the night for the kitchen or bathroom, the motion detector triggers the event that sends brighten to 40% commands to the lights so that they come up nicely without blinding you. I'm in a small town where there arent any other x10 users that I know of, and so the reliablilty tends to be very high. The only problem I has was my UPS for my computer blocked signals for 2 rooms, but after a filter from Smarthome that issue was solved.

I'm planning a Crestron implementation if I get the townhouse I have my eye on... I have a feeling it will be a lot like assembling an audio studio though: every one piece you get makes you aware of two or three pieces you feel you can't live without--lather, rinse, repeat.

over here, the system is called something else, but my dad has this thing in his office, that he can, while sitting at any computer inside the office, control any room's lights, any room's A/C, any room's speakers' volume, and any room's blinds (if they have blinds). It's a pretty cool system, and was all professionaly wired, because even the telephones are hooked up on to the server, so that if someone calls, their info pops up on his computer.
