I have an acoustic guitar with electric pickup. I currently have no Amplifier.

I want to record myself...store seperate tracks....and then mix/modify those tracks.

What are some methods for doing this ?

I would like to spend NO MORE than 500 dollars US .

no, i cant. Radio Shack would have them. Just get a 1/4"(I think that is the size) to 1/8" plus adapter, plug it in your input on your sound card and you can record.

You can use your computer's sound card, plus some multitrack recording software, I think. I don't know very much about this, but I've been trying to lok into it lately. A friend of mine told me about this rack-mounted 8 input multitrack recorder from a company called Aardvark. I looked it up, and they have a 4 track recorder as well for as low as 300 bucks. Plugs into your computer like a sound card, external box with a serial-like cable hooked into a special PCI card. Neat stuff.

Well here is the deal... I am trying to use Linux as my OS for the track editing.

My question is more realated to Hardware not software.

I am hearing mixed opinions about plugging DIRECTLY from Guitar to PC. I am considering something in the middle, but not sure what. Any suggestions ?
