Help me out here please.
Two models I am looking at are the Denon 1802 and Harman Kardon 220.
Any experience and/or opinions.
Thanks

id say go with the denon. either will be nice.

connections look about the same for both recievers.

the denon has more watts/channel so id say go with it. harman always underrates there amps and they send more current so youll actually get more than the 45w/ch that they rate the reciever at.

but id still say go denon.

(i own a harman and my roommate had one as well)

Pioneer VSX-D411

Audio/Video Receiver with DTS/Dolby Digital/Pro Logic II
Equal Power for All Five Channels (100W x 5)
2 Digital Inputs

Pioneer VSX-D511 includes all VSX-D411 features and adds the following:

96/24 D/A conversion
S-video in and out
Five channel stereo
Virtual Surround back channel processing to create a virtual six channel surround sound effect from any source

The VSX-D411 will be available in May at a suggested retail price of $275.

The VSX-D511 will be available in April at a suggested retail price of $300.

That mean online you can get either one for a song.
I'd guess under $200 shipped from Etronics.com

Well I am not dead set on one of these two units.
I just want a quality, entry level unit for music and movies.
If you can buy it at Best Buy, I don't want it. Which excludes Pioneer, Sony, and Yamaha, all these brands do make good receivers, but they cost $800 and up for their quailty units, which is out of my budget.
Still open to others opinions always.
Thanks...

I'd go with the Denon...

You can get it for $360.59 from reliabeaudiovideo.com.
Look for the coupon link at the top of the page.
I ordered a receiver from them last week and was very satified with their service. I got it in about two days.

Well I read up on the Outlaw and it seems very impressive, but sucks that you can't hear it. You just have to go by word of mouth but that word is very positive.
So now I am looking at.

Denon 1802
Harman Kardon 220
Onkyo 595
Outlaw 1050

Thanks Deftron for that link, they have good prices on most all of their stuff.

Arrrrgghhhh.....
Any Onkyo owners ???

I never used to be a HK fan, but when I saw their stereo receiver that pumps up to 42 amps out to the speakers themselevs, that alone sold me :)
Apparently it's decently priced too!

I have the Denon AVR 1601 and except for the small, too many buttoned, non lighted remote I love it.

If you live in Columbia, SC, you can come over to my house and hear my POS Pioneer and decide for yourself on the quality.

IMHO, all recievers sound alike till y ou start spending serious money on something like a Lexicon and seperate amps.
I use my cheap Pioneer with very expensive speakers (mains are $6,000 Legacy Focus).
Get the features and decoding you want.

The h/k no question. The lower power is because of the higher current. They don't *need* a high wattage rating. Ask anyone truely familer with HA. It has a better THD rating too.

h/k will give a warmer sound. Denon is good, but a little higher. Not high like Onkyo or Yamaha though.

glen is mistaken about the Pioneer. If you have a discerning ear, you'll want the h/k or the Denon. About 3 years ago, I bought a h/k. This was after listening to almost every reciever on the market. Everybody in the local pro audio store new me by name...

RGN, what was the name of the piece of electronic equiptment you used to match the oout put on all the recievers?
If you didn't do it, then you compared them at different volumes.
In controlled settings where this is done with VERY VERY expensive speakers, people can't even distiguish one from another is a side by side test.

Not only the volume, but the difference in time to change recievers changes your perception of the sound as well.

I myself own a 2 year old Pioneer VSX-d608, and it has no trouble driving any of the speakers I have (telefunken monitor 120's, a DIY CC, Sherwood surrounds, a more DIY speakers to come in the summer :)).

I have little doubt that the Outlaw Audio 1050 would easily beat out the Denon and HK power wise, but I dont think it has as many features.
