Has anyone successfully configured their cable modem with red hat? mine has this USB adapter, not a NIC card, I wonder if there is anyway to do it.

Thanks!

I think if you tell 'em that you're using Linux, you may be able to get an external box with an Ethernet port. that would be the "best" way to do it if you can.

Good Luck

I honestly don't think there is, but....

Does your provider use DHCP? If so, try running

dhcpcd [your usb device]

It might work. A search on Google (albeit a quick one) turned up a bunch
of people with the same problem, and no one with a solution. If I had a USB
cable modem, I'd tinker with it, but mine's all ethernet. Sorry man.

Unless they've changed things the modem isn't usb, it's the network adapter that is. If so, get rid of the crappy thing (they all really suck) and put a network card in your machine that's friendly with Linux. Then you'll be good to go.

There are modems out now that hook directly into the USB port, but it from what MSAgent said it sounds like he has one of the adapters.

If so, yeah, best bet is probably to just get a NIC
