Currently I have a single dumbbell that I use for a variety of movements with resistance in addition to a lot of body weight training. The problem is that I'm starting to move up in weight and I just don't trust the olympic dumbbell.

So...I've been looking into other solutions. I looked at powerblocks but Spinlock looks like it's going to be the best bet especially since there are a bunch of plates in my building's basement I can snag for free. Does anyone have any experience with spinlock? Other recommendations?

I have Ironmaster dumbbells and have nothing but positive things to say about them. They are pricey, but you get what you pay for. I tried out the powerblocks and I hated the feel and design. so I went with Ironmaster instead.

If you insist on buying weights and working out at home - just get a decent set of weights with clips or the locks. The adjustable dumbbells are a nice idea, but insanely expensive. Free weights can be used with barbells as well.

I'm inclined to say just go sign up for a gym though.

Nahhhhh. I used to work out at a gym but prefer working out at home by a country mile.

Thanks for the input folks.

Just curious, why don't you trust an olympic bar? What is their to trust anyway?

An Olympic dumbbell bar holds the weight on with a little screw in pin that just uses friction against the bar to hold it there. Good collars are too big to be effective on a dumbbell. My various lift weights are creeping up there and I would be pissed if a pin slid out and weight went flying somewhere during a snatch or something.
