They are one of world's largest bank's but in US, they provide very poor service. I sent them application , signature cards, copy of social security, copy of driver license, check for deposit. Couple weeks passed no answer, call in their account opening dept in Bufallo, person asks me what color and size was your envelope??? put me on hold comes back says they havent received anything from me, USPS never lost letter before, so another weeks comes by I get call today that someone found debit card application on supervisors desk but why didnt I send rest of required stuff. I am totally shocked either someone missplaced all other information or someone stole it. I get stupid run-around from operator, thank god I was able to get contact with their CEO, he promised to order investigation. I guess that's what I get for being ferengi and trying to get $75 AMex check.... It would be more understandable if it was some new internet bank but this is one world's largest banks, if you read reviews on the net, they are horrible stories about their fee's and handling of home loan payments

They held my mortgage for about 6 months and I wasn't too impressed with their loan department either. Since then I've refinanced (went from a 30 year 6.75% fixed to a 15 year 5.5% fixed 🙂) and went with another lender with significantly better service.

If I were to send sensitive documents like that I'd definitely send it with some sort of tracking/confirmation.

I should of..... damn me freaking ferengi

well hopefully some supervisor will get theirs butts up to look for it after CEO contacts who ever in charge of that mad house in Buffalo

Oh boohoo, my friends dad is the Vice President of their Canadian HSBC, and as far as I know no one I know of has had problems with them up here.

HSBC is horrible. They won't even let you open your own account until you are 18. Damn them.

i think people will sooner or later encounter some kind of problem with services...its not like HSBC has a history of losing stuff rite?

yes they have history of losing mail and payments but mostly poor service

I had my business account there for 21 years. The service towards the end was horrific. Totally inept. Went elsewhere. They still haven't closed my accounts after a year, after several phone calls. Morons.

that doesn't have anything to do with anything. wtf is your point.

Youseff Nar CEO HSBC just got back from vacation, seems like decent guy responded to my e-mail right away and assigned one of the executive officers to start an investigation. So if anyone has serious problem in general or regarding this offer e-mail me for contact information and toll free #

Slightly OT:

I work for a financial institution, and we usually get 50-150 pieces of mail everyday in our PO Box (at the post office). Almost everyday, we get a piece of mail sent to a different PO Box. The name of the addressee doesn't match ours, and the PO Box number doesn't match ours.

Similarly, today we received about 10 OPENED envelopes. Each was either taped and/or stapled back together. Several were postmarked mid-December. This tells me that our Post office is sending OUR mail to somebody else, just like we're getting other people's mail. I can only hope that we actually received all the checks that were originally sent to us. Some stupid blind monkey in a mailman uniform is screwing up bigtime.

Anyways, the morale of the story is that HSBC may or may not be to blame for your lost documents.

LOL. I interned for HSBC in Buffalo. My now-fiance also interned there in the main building where you most likely called. We also know someone who left a full-time job there. Let me tell you my experience... I would go in at 8am... and see most of the guys sitting in the cubicles with their feet up and newspapers open. Every single day, almost all hours of the day. You want to know what I did there? I was a web tester for their up-and-coming online banking feature for their website. This was December '99. Is online banking available for their website yet? I don't think so...

I personally think Washington Mutual is head and shoulders above for the same services.

rh71 I think they do have complete online banking but not there is problem with poor service but HSBC probably one of the most expensive banks in US, they charge outrageous fee's that even tiny small banks dont

They have personal banking online? I'd like to see it (and compare with my previous work)... my fiance who's a customer isn't even aware of this capability...

They didnt find my documents worried about my social security and driver license copies, in whose hands those got in. She offered to speak to my local branch have them honor this promotion, but I dont want this $75 check rather stay safe than sorry. WORD OF ADVICE STAY AWAY FROM THIS BANK! FDIC told me they are regulated by Federal Reserve Board, I will submit my complaint. I dont think we seen single internet bank to handle mail and other issues so poorly with high fee's

Wduaqnug - It would be interesting (to say the least) to meet you in person and have lunch with you, just promise me that you won't threaten to sue the eating establishment 😉
