Why would you end a thread hijack?

:D

How much more is the 500W than the 430?

If a PSU comes with a chassis these days and it isn't an Antec chassis, or an Antec PSU (with all the holographic bits to prove it) the PSU gets junked and an Antec SL350-2.0 or TP550-2.0 substituted. Hell, if it's an A64 rig, which all of them are these days, I won't even ship it with an SL350-2.0; TP550-2.0 is mandatory equipment.

Wow. My aging Enermax 350watter has been keeping my 3200+/6800GT/4HDs alive for some time. I really should change it.

My personal rig is an acient (like, when 350w was a lot and they were new) 350w Enermax with a 2800+ (A64), 1.5 gigs of RAM, like 9 HDD's and a 9600Pro. I swear the only reason this PSU survives bootup is because the HDDs have staggard startup.

Deer PSU?

You can tell it's not a Deer PSU because the system isn't in flames.

LMAO....hold on...

Nope, no black smoke. Must not be.

Actually, I had a DEER PSU for the longest time. It never caught fire. Well, the PSU itself didn't. The ATX header had a small fire on the 12v. Did a little bit of melting on the mobo, but it still works fine. That DEER got the axe (literally. I smashed it to bits with an axe) and an Allied is now still successfully powering that system.

I tore apart the DEER PSU. Surprisingly little (still visible) scorching for the light and sound show it put on.

my old antec 350 watt psu died, and when i plugged the mobo connector in smoke came from the plug, and i pulled it away imediately. unfortunately, it fried and also killed my geforce 6800 with it. i then got a 430 watt antec psu, and this thing better live because it was 85 bucks.

Shoulda took it apart with an axe. Seriously. You people are no fun when it comes to decommissioning hardware. I have a 350w Fortron that I pulled out of a customer rig. I'm going to pull the 120mm fan grille (that's valuable :p) and subject it to some sort of as-yet-undecided nasties. Maybe I'll run it over with the truck. Or maybe I'll rig it with explosives.

The problem is this:

You connected it with power applied to the PSU. Bad idea. VERY bad idea.

aww... i ripped apart and old dell psu and then we (my friend too) took it and hit it with a baseball bat, then smashed it against the wall. wow that was fun. damn cleaning that up sucked, but it was worth seeing it blow to pieces.

You don't smash it indoors! There was a time this past winter that my entire back lawn was awash in various electronic parts.

And I just had a genius idea. I'm going to fashion a trebuchet and see how far I can launch this PSU!

Now... How do you build a trebuchet?

Hmmm...I don't know, but being an EE, I could fashion you a wicked railgun!
