After all the hype about the PS3 being hacked and so on, I decided to jailbreak my PS3. It took about 5 minutes and backups played perfect. The worst part is that it's too easy. Even grandma can do it.

The first thought in my head was that of the DreamCast and how piracy just murdered that system.

I forsee the same thing in the not-so-long run for this console, although I bet short term sales of PS3 hardware will skyrocket; a friend of mines that had ZERO interest in the PS3 is going to buy one tomorrow...ugh.

It was nice knowing you PS3. May you R.I.P. :|

EDIT: GAH - Google for the info, I don't have files/info/etc...don't PM me.

Wrong forum but, as SKORPI0 said, there's already a thread about it in Console Gaming.

I would be careful. AT is very strict about piracy discussions.

There's nothing to point someone to downloading. I am merely pointing out that SONY is in a very scary place right now. If jailbreaking required modding, or at least required XBOX 360 styled effort, it might curb piracy a bit. But right now, it's just too easy.

they are going to add cdkeys possibly

Probably would just need to keep the PS3 offline then, unless they put in some sort of activation. Even then, wow. I really don't want to see the PS3 die, but wouldn't mind seeing a new console from SONY. 🙂

The DS and the Wii have both been completely raped by pirates and they're both still going strong. Eh.

My thread about this got moved to the Console Gaming forum...even though the point of the thread was to inform the masses (not just the dedicated gamers).

We have a console forum.

Anyway, my 60GB launch PS3 died the day after the hack was announced.

I am now the proud owner of THREE dead PS3s... a 20GB EE+GS launch unit with no video, a 60GB EE+GS launch unit with a blinking red light (same error as YLOD) and an 80GB GS unit with a straight-up YLOD. 🙁

EE = PS2 Emotion Engine (CPU)
GS = PS2 Graphics Synthesizer (GPU)
These were the most valuable units and, yes,m their storage capacities had been upgraded. I feel like making a counter to this guy.

I got GT5 as a xmas present, guess how many times I've played it?

Wrong!

Half is the correct answer. I put the disc in, updated it and still haven't played.

I'm thinking this could also be a trap, a very clever trap by sony. They get everyone to go buy a ps3 thinking "zomg haxored" and then they switch. Bam! Moar ps3 units sold, moar games will be bought once they reach their targeted console sales.
