I've never won anything from any lottery before, but now fortune smiles on Jeeebus! Now it's just a matter of finding a financial planner and figuring out what to do with my winnings.

That's right folks, Jeeebus got 1 number + the powerball... that's $4 of sweet, sweet victory. Sure, the tickets cost him $5, but that's not the point. I'm rich! Filthy rich!

McDonald's dollar menu on me!

 Awesome

Though they say lottery tickets are a tax for people who suck at math.

The odds of winning the jackpot of the mega millions is 1 in 175,711,536. Since the value of the win is $171,000,000 (for this week). We're at an almost 1 dollar expected value for each "play." (97.32 cents for this week's)

So, really, once it gets above 176 million, it's not that stupid of a purchase. (Not to mention the odds of winning something smaller, which boosts the value of your ticket)

You also need to factor in the number of people playing, which would reduce the amount of winnings on the off chance you do win. And since the number of people playing is directly related to the size of the jackpot, it's a losing situation.

1 in 175,711,536 pays 97.32 cents on the dollar on a $171,000,000 jackpot if it's only you playing.

There's never a point where you have a winning edge over the odds. That's why it's called gambling and not investing.

Its not $4.00 after taxes.

I will sleep well tonight knowing that $2.75 of my earnings will be going to bail out those less fortunate than myself, the bourgeoisie lottery players only so fortunate to win $1 - $2.

Mega Millions > Powerball

By an odd coincidence they're about equal this week. MM claims their jackpot will be $171 million and Powerball says theirs is $173 million. I'm hoping to pull off the improbably double and take the whole $343 million.

But who needs the lottery anyway? If I just invest $100, compounded interest should make me a multi-millionaire by the time I'm 60, right?

Assuming 10% interest compounded monthly.

😉

Also you need to look at the fact you are not winning 171 million you are winning about 90 😉

So how are you going to invest your $4.00?

KT

I've read both the $10 and $300,000 threads, and come to the conclusion that hookers and blow is my best option.

$4.00? Are you hoping she will let you play "just the tip"?

you're clearly inexperienced with the intricacies of a highly leveraged hookers & blow transaction.

Wait...wait...wait.

You can LEVERAGE hookers and blow?

Let me tell you, a whole new fiscal horizon just opened up before me...
