i heard clicking. a partition on the raid was not accessible, and then poof.

rebooting did not help. it clicked =(

i hope the r\w head did not get trashed.

i gotta get new drives. even if the array is not trashed, time to get new drives.

Happened to me last year.
Turns out my kt7-raid's udma100 header blew, took a Quantum KA along with it.
That my wallet didnt like

i know of the risks of raid 0. i know the chance doubles. but this is soooooo bad news =(

i was preparing to rid myself of the RAID 0 partition as well. but i was preparing for raid 0,1

Whats the difference between raid 0 and raid 1? I know that one is a duplication one right? For example you take 2 40gb hds and it takes both hds and writes to both of them estially doubling the speed of reading and writing but taking up double the space too.

raid 0 = striping, 2 or more HDDs are made into ONE array. the array is thus the combined size (n times the smallest drive in capacity, where n is the number of drives). basically each file is stored in each drive (separated), so it's like a person working with 4 arms as opposed to 2 arms when there are 2 drives involved. for 2 drives, performance is up to 2x that of a single drive alone. think of it as 2 pipes that merge to form a bigger one, if one of the smaller pipes fails, the entire array is gone.

raid 1 = mirroring, each file is stored in both HDD (replicated). it's a way of keeping data safe. think of it as carbon paper... if you lose on drive (or copy) the other is still there safe.
