if bittorrent was not designed for p2p then what is it designed for? its the fastest way to get anime by far ( link in sig ). it beats out rooted xdcc servers and slow ass dsl servers.

It was designed for networks and the sharing of files over one.

how does e-donkey work?

maybe CorporateRecreation should take this... but i'll get it a try. there are usually websites with .tor files. when you download one of those files and open it with the torrent client it connects to all the other people that are currently uploading that specific file. as you download the file, you also upload the part of the file you have already downloaded. the more people on the same file, the faster it is, and vice versa.

if your looking for specific files, bt isn't for you. if your into anything that is free and can watch, give it a try.

edonkey and the variants work in the same manner. It finds the file and downloads a bunch of parts that people have and puts it together at the end.

Well the Internet is a network and who cares what it was designed for? The Internet itself wasn't designed for 99% of what it's used for now.

It works for getting a lot of things and if you keep up with when things get put out there you can get what you want with relative ease.

This is because the files you were getting, mostly illegal I am assuming, are popular and a lot of people had their torrents open. It makes a terrible p2p client because once people stop wanting those files, nobody has them open for you, making it slow.
As far as only getting popular things, I've found that if you aren't looking for something that is reasonably popular on Kazaa/WinMX/etc. then odds are you won't be getting from there either.

Why is it that nobody has a clue what they are talking about in this thread?
What do you mean? The only statement that I saw in this thread that was untrue is that there is only one BitTorrent client.

BTW in the BitTorrent FAQ the creator links to a Yahoo! Group about getting files. Regardless of any disclaimer he includes that seems like endorsement to me.

Well, that's basically how edonkey works, but most p2p programs work that way these days, so that's nothing special. What I like about the donkey is that it's manageable on dialup (bittorrent sounds like it would be a PITA to use that way), and the donkey is pretty easy to use (especially with websites of ed2k links) once you feed it a good server.met (available from thedonkeynetwork).

i love the donkey, when i used it. Now, i let people get the file and then hop on my dc++ hub and grab as i wish.
