I'm not sure I believe you so if you'll pm me the card number and that code on the back, I'll check it out.:D

I wonder if some companies have just about collected themselves out of business because of the tight lending over the last 1.5 Yr? So now they are tempting us.

USAA gave me a 10k limit right off the bat. I was expecting a lot less, but I guess having had a discover card and master card in good standing for nearly 15 years means I had a good credit history.

I was just thumbing through a 2008 issue of Consumer Reports on credit cards and they gave their top rating to USAA. They did also say that most Credit Unions are very superior and an excellent choice for banking.

I've had a $500 7.15% with them for about 15 mos now (I'm 19) as well as 2x 9k auto loans. I've been thinking about requesting a limit raise for bigger purchases where a $500 CC isn't that helpful (I was annoyed I had to use debit instead of credit to buy a $1k laptop for example, less reward pts)

Took me a while to find what my interest rate even is since I've never paid interest. I have an interest rate of 8.24% on a credit limit of $17k on one card and 9.24% on a credit limit of $3500 on another card that I don't use anymore. Seeing as I never put more per month than I can pay off in one paycheck, I'm not worried. Also I have a credit score of 800 so I don't need to do anything to improve my credit. My mortgage rate of 4.85% really is the best I coulda done.

Don't know why you think this is a good thing ...

Credit is evil, no matter what the rate is.

No. People that can't control their credit/buying impulses are stupid. Credit is a tool, like a hammer.

Thats pretty dumb.

I could either rent an apartment AND save for a house, which would take me 50+ years, or buy a house with a mortgage, get to live in it, and have it paid off in ~25.

Which do you think makes more sense?

There is also the argument that I could say make 50,000 a year and live like a miser for 10 years off only half of that. Save the rest and then buy a house outright for cash.

You forgot taxes.

And the amount you'd be paying in rent those 10 years, even for a shitty place, would still cost more than 5% interest on the house.

Plus, you'd get to live in your house those 10 years, instead of "living like a miser"

Try "living like a miser" when you have a wife and kids, lol.
