<< We have in our hands a new, but incomplete, AMD OEM price list, due to take effect from 9 October. However, we understand that AMD may be having second thoughts (over timing, as opposed to pricing). And who could blame the company for making hay, while Intel don't shine.

Full details of the price cuts are not yet available - and AMD refuses to confirm or deny that a price move was in the pipeline - but if the changes we've seen are matched across the board, Intel should be worried.

An 850MHz Athlon drops by more than 50 per cent from around $350 to $165, while the little Duron 600 moves from $79 to $53. Other revised prices include Athlon 700, 750 and 800MHz at $116, $130 and $149 respectively.

So how does a brand new T-Bird at 850mhz for only $165 sound?

BUAHAHAHAHAHA...I may have to think about getting dual T-Birds instead of dual Durons in January!!! 😀

Buahahahahahha 😀

That's ammazing, Intel better drop soon too or else they are going to loose a lot of buisness.

Will the new price include the warranty? I just bought a Tbird 700 OEM for 118 but without warranty. the warranty will cost $25 around.

I don't get it. Why do they want to do this?

Are They trying to gain more market shares by underpricing their products?

I'm a happy Athlon 800 owner.

I guess they're doing it b/c they can afford to do it😉

ive had my tbird 900 system for 2 months, now, mabey its time to updgrrade lol
i could have saved like 300 dollars if i waited until like now

Charles -

My guess is they're trying to move the sweet part of the curve into MHz ranges that Intel hasn't been able to supply in volume.

Holy Sh1t!!!!!

An 850 TBird for $165!! nice!
And an MSi K7T Pro is $113

That's less than $300 for an 850 + board 😎

No overclocking on the K7T, but sh1t with prices like that, who needs overclocking 😀

<< And an MSi K7T Pro is $113 >>

Funk that, you can get an FIC AZ11 on Pricewatch for $97!!! 😀

That's impossible. I'll believe it when I see it. Maybe the Register is quoting prices per 1,000,000 units?

Anyway, the PIII933 is under US$500 now so who cares about AMD. 😉

Who give's a flying squirrel's ass about that! 😉 Under $500, woooweeeeee, yippy skippy!! 🙂 You'd prolly get a 950 Thunderbird for $200-$225 following that model...hell, they're already $329.

Wowow... damn it, this may be too much to resist upgrading. Geez as if the prices weren't low enough already... 🙂

Come on Intel, you're screwed either way... lower them prices too!

Oh man, kick intel in the head when they are down baby. I would like nothing more than Intel being the underdog after their high and mighty $hit and have to work seriously hard to play catch up. The consumer is going to benifit if a real war gets going, even more so than now.

Does anyone know how much of a margin is made on CPU's?

Eric

You know, this makes me nervous. I really hope AMD can do this without cutting into profits too much, ie. that the lower prices pump up enough volume to compensate.
