Holy Crap!

I was just looking for my keys a couple minutes ago and couldn't find them. I opened the door to my place and looked outside and saw that I had left my keys in the lock when I came home today...6 HOURS ago!

Damn, this night almost ended in disaster. Someone could have taken my keys, opened the garage, taken my car and I wouldn't have noticed until tomorrow.

well...at least you would have had a good reason to show up for work 3 hours late :)

No, I'm completely serious...I honestly could have woken up tomorrow and my car would have been gone.

no chance they could've come in and robbed you (or worse) also ?

I remember another ATOTer a few months back ... someone came in during some party and grabbed his keys from his desk... returned with a friend a few hours later.. just walked in and held the family "hostage".

I did something like that at work once (almost)... I left my jacket at work one night and I was going to be off the next week so I figured I'd go back and get it. I took out my keys, unlocked the door, reached in my back pocket for my wallet to get the card I had the security system code on. I grabbed my jacket, reached in my pocket for my keys and they were gone. Looked outside on the lock and they weren't there. I thought for sure someone stole my keys (theres a car dealership RIGHT next door, like 5-6 feet away). Then I reached in my back pocket and felt my keys, for some reason I stuck them back there when I took out my wallet

True, but I dunno...it'd be pretty easy to just take my car without anyone knowing a thing until the next day.

When I lived in the dorms, the parking lot was a good 2 minute walk from the front doors... can't really see most of the parked cars from the building. I left the rear window completely down accidentally... snowed that night too... I came back and it was untouched. A little buildup of snow on the ledge too... I was completely shocked. I mean, these are the dorms... tons of "kids" pass through... and no one decided to do anything.

What? you live in a bad area?
No, a good area. But cars still get stolen in Ann Arbor, especially when owners leave their keys in plain sight.

Ah, I just couldn't picture it, because it would be very hard for anyone to see that I accidently left my keys in the knob since I have a large front yard.

When I lived in Tahoe, no one locks their door. I could be a good thief in that town.

Between the wife and me, we've probably done that once a year for the past twenty years.

If you wanna wait outside my back door chances are you might get lucky this year.
