HOLY CRAP! They played Punjabi MC on the radio!

They played his song "Beware of hte Boys" featuring Jay-Z on KISS92.5 (which plays mostly hiphop/rap/reggae/r&b). It's pretty much his knight rider remix of the a bhangra song with someone translating the words in english and some hiphop is thrown in the mix.

The beat & bhangra song is awesome, but the translation part kinda screws it up.

Regardless its pretty hype to see some Desi DJs on the radio!

huh? You mean the Peugot commercial that was on the 'Net? I don't think I've ever seen a Audi or Saab commercial with bhangra music?

my g/f and her friends were in a bhanga competition a few years ago, and this was their song..

chak de phatte was their dance group name....i THINK it is spelled like that.

but yeah, i heard it played on power 106 and the beat in LA.

it's a great song....

if you like stuff like that, you'll like a lot of newer bhangra music! i'm not a fan of the traditional stuff, but the new stuff is great.

i'm not even indian..i'm from taiwan.

my favorite is Daler Mehndi. In fact, i went to his concert a few months back -- it was MY idea to go.....it was AWESOME.

nusrat fateh ali khan is also a popular choice for remixes. he died around 5 years ago but his music has been used extensively.

Search for 'beware of the boys' or 'knight rider bhangra' on kazaa and you're all set...

EDIT: Anyone remember when Apache Indian was popular 10 years ago?? (he was really popular in Toronto...video was #1 on MuchMusic and his stuff was all over the radio.) I think he mixed bhangra and reggae or something...

Heh, never did I think I would find the names to some of the songs I love hearing at Desi (Indian) parties here on Anandtech from a Taiwanese guy.
