Just compared spreed to this and this is absolutely superior. I miss words with spreed at 500wpm but didn't with spritz.

Yup, you cannot do this without technology. To begin with, some history:

Then some info on ORP, saccade, and percentages:

Their blog has more information:

So basically, the original method - RSVP - doesn't align the ORP like Spritz does:

http://www.spritzinc.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/word_positioning_blog3.png

So it takes the work out of moving your eyes across the page (80%) and lets you focus on processing the content (traditionally 20%). The "technology", in this case, is an ORP word alignment algorithm combined with a digital display to flip words at a certain WPM speed.

I guess the word alignment thing is interesting and novel, but simply flashing words in a box instead of displaying them linearly isn't really that technologically challenging. I do like it, though, given the demo in the OP. Definitely read faster than traditional left to right.

Yeah I tried out Spreed for awhile, but Spritz is the best imo. I'm anxious to see it get integrated in more things. Would love something like an e-ink smartwatch with a high refresh rate for reading emails & news articles. I'd never want to read a novel on it, but I think it would be useful for education-related items like conversational textbooks, not like math but maybe stuff like psychology or history textbooks where you need that extra boost to help you stay focused on the material.
