Such A great movie I agree, I love the scene of the crash site. I would have pissed my pants seeing the ****** ship let alone the CPR scene.

I always wondered if Carpenter had a thing for Kurt Russell.

This movie (and Alien) seriously scared the fvck out of me when I saw it in the theater. I still hold it against my mother for taking me to see it. I wonder what she thought of all the gore.

Aliens was a great action movie, but didn't have horror in it. Alien was a great Sci-Fi horror movie. The Thing was also excellent. Another movie I really liked from John Carpenter was the Prince of Darkness. Other great horror movies were The Ring and Event Horizon. A lot of people despised Event Horizon, but I thought it was quite good.

I never understood why Event Horizon was ripped on, it was a pretty good flick. I didn't like The Ring that much though.

The Thing rocked. Although I wouldn't call it a survivor flick, considering they probably weren't going to survive

Remake???? Arghhh!!!!! I can't believe I haven't heard about it!!! Have to check it out...

Besides some cool cheeky 50's dialogue, it really doesn't stack up.

Kurt Russell pouring his drink in the computer (chess) was a classic. I wouldn't mind pouring a drink or two in a computer now and then but the guilt over the alcohol abuse would be too great. :Q

I think The Thing is definitely unfairly overlooked, in that it's a lot better than some iconic horror films, like Friday the 13th. Its special effects were amazingly creative and ahead of their time (they still look good IMO, 25 years out), it's well-written and acted, and creates geniune fear. Really a masterpiece in its genre.
