/begin rant Ok, this is not available in my area (gives me that darn rural picture) even though I live in Seattle!! Anyway, is there a faster way that typing in each zip code in seattle? Is there a hidden search feature for "find a list area near you?" This is rediculus, I mean, I realize we are only the 24th largest city in the US, but common... There are 3 million people in the area and there has to be some service... /end rant

*sigh* I just wanted to save some money...

one more thing, a rant if you will, Never believe the "club" savings at the stores that require the special cards to get the discounts. So often, the "price without card" is so much above what competitors in the area are selling it for, it's ridiculous. "You saved $50" means you probably only really saved $10 or $20 over shopping at our competitors. But then again, the discounts at those stores are often larger than at other stores --- ONLY buy things on sale at those stores.

Absolutely. I compared WinnDixie and Albertsons prices a few times I went in to buy a couple quick things (both happen to be closer to me than Publix) and the items I saw were MUCH higher than Publix's regular price. With the card they were very close, maybe a few cents higher or a few cents lower. So, basically, they really screw you without the card--so you are letting them track your purchases so you can pay regular prices.

I don't do coupons, too much hassle. Otherwise I do stockpile items that I won't get sick of (like paper products, canned goods, soda/drinks) or go bad. Things like cereal or granola bars or such, if I buy too much I get sick of them and then I won't touch the remaining stuff. So it get's tossed for being in the cabinet for 2yrs... ;)

Ah well, I had my hopes up but this site isn't what I expected.

Although area is a factor, I think it's based more on what STORES are near your home. In Houston, we have a large number of different grocery stores, but it appears that Kroger is the only store that is participating.

The list is not an automatic thing. The site contributors keep a rather lengthy spreadsheet of price trends and sale prices (thus filtering out the "phantom sales" -- sale prices that are not a real discount). Chances are there are no contributors in Seattle yet.

Oh, and like I said, the list encourages stockpiling but it's not a necessary evil. My g/f and I saved the money I stated in the original post ONLY by buying what we need for the next couple weeks or so. We don't have crates of pasta, cereal, etc. sitting around. I think the most of any one item we bought were 4 cans of green beans. So basically with "regular" shopping we saved 50% -- $85 with the list. That's worth it IMO.

this is pretty cool, I'll have to give the trial a shot. should be good since they started in SoCal anyway. I did just resubscribe to the Sunday L.A. times, only a dollar a week for the 1st 26 weeks. in other cost-savings news, I called Adelphia and dumped a bunch of channels I never watch anyway. "But sir you're only saving $12 a month" "SUCK IT, you can pay the $12 if you think it's so little."

We are constantly expanding TERI'$ $HOPPING LI$T, nicknamed THE LIST to new areas of the country. Plans are in effect to provide THE LIST to every area of the US.

Your zip code entry on the first page of the site, will bring up THE LIST for your area. If THE LIST is not yet in your area, you may order THE GROCERY GAME field guide to learn how to apply our principals to shopping in your area. Once you order the field guide, you will be on our mailing list for notification when THE LIST comes to your area.

For now, THE LIST is in the following states. We have notated the store that we use for THE LIST. So if you want to use THE LIST in any of the following states, you will want to be sure that the appropriate store is in your area.

In each area, we select the store with the best savings for THE LIST.

ALABAMA - Publix (only in Birmingham), Winn Dixie and Thrift Way

ARIZONA - Frys and Smith's

CALIFORNIA - Vons, Pavillions, Ralphs, Safeway, and Pak 'N Save

COLORADO - King Soopers and City Market

CONNECTICUT - Shoprite and Stop & Shop

DELAWARE - Shoprite

FLORIDA - Publix, Winn Dixie, and Thrift Way

I think I get 12 weeks free for 3 referrals. Each referral needs to have actually SUBSCRIBED to the service, not gotten a trial.

In any case, it's no skin off my back. If anyone has signed up and wants to help out, let me know.

You know, you'd think that. But considering all I do on Sunday mornings is drink coffee and read the crossword, I substituted coupon clipping for the crossword. It was all done in about 30 minutes. That was including the filing and the cross-checking of the list. If your time is worth more than $200 / hour, then you shouldn't even be reading this post. If you make anything less than that, the only thing that should stop you from paying $1 for a trial is sheer laziness.

Hmmmm... looks very interesting. But how do you stockpile the blue items if you need a coupon for them? Clip coupons from multiple newspapers?

How does it not serve chicago? It is not like there aren't any people or stores in the area.
