A while ago, RossMAN was kind enough to point me to The Grocery Game (Teri's Shopping List). I've always been skeptical of EXTREME COUPON SHOPPING, because I never thought they'd really be worth the extra effort. Man, was I wrong.

Pavilions:
Total purchase: $26
Club/Coupon savings: $19
Final price: $7

Ralphs:
Total Purchase: $180
Club/Coupon savings: $85
Final price: $95

And this is all stuff I'm actually going to NEED, mind you. I didn't have to do store-brand or bulk shopping. It only took me about 30 minutes on Sunday morning to clip, sort, and file the coupons I needed.
Thanks, RossMAN. :)

You're welcome :)

I wish it were available in my area.

Would you mind doing me a favor? Would you explain how exactly it works?

Thanks,
Ross

It's available in my area, but I'd like to learn more about it first. Please tell us more details. I'm a skeptic.

Am I correct to think that it is...

Well, you pay someone to find the sales and coupons for you?

If you are going to sell us on your scam you need to provide complete details of it. ;)

Hmmm... If I saved $104 from my grocery bill, I'd be getting paid to go grocery shopping (and, that's not impossible... I've been paid before on a deal a couple years ago... had to put in shelving just for the stuff I was "given") - Shopping for 4.

More details on this please?

Ohhhh, never mind. I read the details on the site.. That's exactly what I do. Clip coupons, hang onto the coupons until the item is on sale. I buy almost exclusively sale items, I use coupons for the sale items... etc. And I buy in bulk. ie, when pasta is 3 for $1, I get it then. Every month it's on sale for 2 for $1... I don't get it then. By purchasing half a shopping cart (or a whole shopping cart) the 2 or 3 times a year that it's on sale, I save a fortune. Ditto for anything else with a long shelf life. The only item I don't save on is beef. I can't stand when people buy a good steak and put it in the freezer.

one more thing, a rant if you will, Never believe the "club" savings at the stores that require the special cards to get the discounts. So often, the "price without card" is so much above what competitors in the area are selling it for, it's ridiculous. "You saved $50" means you probably only really saved $10 or $20 over shopping at our competitors. But then again, the discounts at those stores are often larger than at other stores --- ONLY buy things on sale at those stores.

On Google, I found this article.

If it's a deal where you save $100 by buying $200 worth of pasta, I'll pass. I'd rather not shell out a bunch of cash all at once to save money. Sure, I won't have to buy it later, but I'd rather pay more per unit if it allows me to not pay out as much total.

It's surprisingly easy.

1. Clip coupons out of Sunday paper and Tuesday mailings.
2. File coupons
3. Print out "THE LIST."
4. Determine what items you need from THE LIST.

"Green" items are FREE after coupon. "Blue" items are "stockpile-worthy" meaning that you buy as much of said items as possible because they're at pretty much the lowest possible price. "Black" items are on sale but not at their best price (buy if needed). Most items on the list are from the current week's coupons but in some cases the List will have you hold on to a coupon for a few weeks, or not use it at all.

Also, liberal use of Costco is encouraged for eggs, milk, cheese, etc.

Oh, and Rob9874, you're kind of incorrect. It's not like Costco bulk shopping where you only save money by buying enough to last until the second coming of Christ.

The List works by making your NORMAL grocery shopping more efficient. You can just buy what you need for the short term, or if you want to maximize your savings, you Stockpile by buying large amounts of things you need often. That is not necessary to save a ton of money, though.

It's $10 / 8 weeks, so $5/month.

I saved enough money to pay for the list for almost two years in one shopping trip. And that was on my $1 free trial.

Citrix - Coupons are filed manually, in whatever storage medium you choose. A $3 cancelled check file from Office Depot works great. The only thing you get online is the list which tells you which coupons to use when.

It sounds like you use coupons and sales to stock up on things, thereby lowering your average monthly (quarterly, yearly) grocery bill. The longer you use the program, the better off you are as you build a stock of a lot of non-perishable goods that you can use over the course of time. As your stock gets low, you watch for good sales/coupons and buy in bulk. You need to have a lot of storage room and be able to handle larger grocery bills every so often. The method is probably expensive to start, but begins to pay off over time. You have to be willing to do time averages to see real payoffs.

I wonder if it would help me save more money than we usually do.

What I need is pricegrabber/pricewatch for Safeway, Albertsons and Fred Meyer.

We clip coupons, wait for sales and Albertsons accepts Safeway double coupons.
