Didn't see that one coming. Was wondering why they weren't so upset about losing those Nortel patents.
Motorola is not what is used to be. Motorola spun-off Motorola proper (the semiconductor business) to form Freescale a while back. They recently divided it up again, separating the cell phone business from Symbol / cable-box stuff.Well, actually, they're only buying a small piece of Motorola...not the entire company.
What the hell, this makes no sense. Google will now compete with their customers on a massive scale.
They should have purchased RIM, eliminated a major OS competitor, taken the patents, slap counter lawsuits on Oracle, Apple and Microsoft, integrate the best features and abilities of Blackberry OS into Android and sell the hardware division to HTC (or another vendor).
They wanted the patents from Motorola. I was wondering what the hell happened to Motorola, they were the communications king for so long. Also, they offered something like a 60% premium on the stock price for the offer. They gave motorola an offer the shareholders couldn't refuse.
It will be some time before this clears regulatory hurdles.
