Holy crap Fear 2 is creepy

I downloaded the demo over the weekend, and found that I will be buying this game soon. I loved the game play, the controls, everything about it. I also enjoyed that it did give me the creeps. I am a HUGE fan of horror movies and getting the crap scared out of me, but this game is pretty damn scary to me. (at least the demo)

I haven't tried this one yet, but the first FEAR game was creepy as hell. Perfect pacing. Sometimes long stretches of eerie hallways with nothing happening, then a big firefight, then immediately something scary, then an empty room with something scary, then a long stretch of nothing, ending with scary, then firefight, nothing... etc etc
It kept throwing me off, so I was always on edge and the scary shit had me trippin like mad. I almost wouldn't WANT to go into the next room. By far one of the scariest things I've either watched or played.

Condemned 1&2 were enough for me, the Fear2 demo I couldn't get through. Gotta be in the mood for those games, that's for sure. Can't just sit down and play em. :Q

FEAR was so-so on creeping me out, but it wasn't that bad.

i downloaded a Condemned demo(can't remember if it was 1 or 2), and it scared the crap out of me.

Thats what this stupid game did to me.. at one point I backed into a corner of a small closet because I had to take a breather. I have read reviews that says part 2 is a lot scarier then 1 was. So give this one a look.

Hitting escape pauses the game. =P

Nothing has ever creeped me out as much as the Shalebridge Cradle (?) level of Thief 3. That was intense..

Condemned came close though at a couple points... Haven't played the 2nd one..

Fear has a good creepy atmosphere though, although I've never had a "need to take a breather" moment with it.

I consider myself a fairly large fan of the horror genre in both movie and games. I thought the first FEAR was fairly enjoyable and had its moments, but it was scarred with a menotenous cubicle-land environment. The game just needed more variety. FEAR 2 does a much better job at addressing this, and just about everything else.

The engine is highly refined as it runs very smoothly, looks great and there were no glitches on my side. The story was really confusing for me. I recall very little from the first and no recap in the start of the game didnt help things. The problem is the narrative gets even more convoluted too.

The scare tactics are decent, but nearing the end of the game I felt veyr little tension, fright or creepiness. FEAR doesnt have the same variety or scope of scare tatics like Dead Space which I adore.

But the really good news is I enjoyed the most important aspect of the game--the gameplay! The firefights are fantastic. It's a solid shooter without overly complex controls. There were a few moments after a tremendous firefight where I looked around the room and it was in utter ruins with dead bodies strewn everywhere and it just felt awesome. 🙂

Fear was nothing compared to Shalebridge cradle level in Thief 3. You can find entire articles written about that single level just because it was so scary. This was the epitome of horror in games and I doubt it will ever be matched. I seriously could not get through the level without taking 1 or 2 hour breaks every few minutes. I really never want to replay that level.

Fear was pretty tense, but Condemned has it beat just because you feel helpless as a simple police detective facing off against the most disturbed minds in the world. In fear you have all sorts of weaponry to fight with, while in condemned you have to resort to beating self mutilated people with pipes.

If you thought fear was scary you will not be able to get through condemned.

Condemned 1 and 2 >>> FEAR 1 and 2

Really enjoyed condemned 1, but the sequel about 1/2 got WTF lame for me. I just really disliked the directions they decided to go there. Loved the 1st half though.

-edit- When did I hit 10,000+ posts?

Damn, Ill have to pick this up too... I need more friggen gaming time.. I just finally got around to sending GOW2 and L4D back.

I played F1 on PC.. I dont remember it as being scary, but it was a good game.

Grats on 10k WC

Fear 2 is pretty creepy. Especially those mutant dudes who come out of the vents and various areas and come at ya. However, Condemned was the scariest game I've ever played. Dark room after dark room, hearing some deranged hobo charging at you from outta nowhere. As well as that demon guy appearing here and there... damn that game gave me the creeps....

I hear Dead Space is pretty intense in this nature too.

The first FEAR was pretty scary but I liked howe the modern weapons and tactics kind of counteracted it. What I mean is the modernism if it all made it a bit less scary. At least to me.

I played the demo for FEAR 2 and it was alot of fun and scary too of course. Can anyone who's played the full game tell me if the monsters "cheat"? For example, in DOOM3, you could clear a room and while you're just standing there, a monster appears behind you. Just "appears" and starts slashing you. I call that cheating.

I have not played the full game, but have played the first few levels. I really like the game, and there is no spontaneous spawning of enemies. The AI is kind of annoying, in that the enemies always seem to spot you instantly, but the "bullet time" obviously nullifies their advantage for the most part. Overall I think this is probably the best horror-themed shooter ever.

i want to like FEAR 2 on the PS3, but i'm still stuck in mouse/kb mode and can't wrap my head around using the PS3 controller in a FPS 🙁

The only FPS games I play on the PS3 are the ones that are PS3 only. If a game appears on multiple consoles, it almost always appears on the PC as well. And I greatly prefer KB&M controls over controllers.

But I also still do well enough, maybe not multiplayer competitively, but succeed in the single player portions with little trouble. A little adjusting and I'm fine. Very much looking forward to picking up Killzone 2 tomorrow, way too busy and haven't been home much, and won't be home later today either so pointless to get it or I KNOW I'd waste time and screw things up. 🙂

I have the name of the game on ps2 that is based in Japan right on the tip of my tongue. You play as a girl with a camera with some kinds of ghost killing powers when you take pictures. You head into this told mansion, where in previous times a Samurai went berserk killing everybody who resided in that mansion. I cant remember the name for the life of me.

Anyways, that game scared the shit out of me. especially the part when your walking down a corridor and out in the distance, you see a ghost peeking out the corner looking at you. At the time, i was like wtf is that...then i get closer and its a ghost head peaking out the corner looking at you. I believe that is the first boss.

FEAR 2 didn't bug me. For some reason I got the chills a few times during FEAR, especially the end with the ghosts.
I think the biggest jump that I got was while climbing up the elevator shaft, looking up and suddenly seeing Alma 😛
Wouldn't Deadspace cause more pants-wetting?
