So i heard lots of great things about this game and i decided to download the free multiplayer version of this game... and holy crap it's hard. I've always been pretty good at multiplayer FPS games and usually adapt pretty quickly, but i had no clue wtf was going on. I couldn't see my enemies and i was getting my ass handed to me. Any tips on how to play better?

I know my clan has a F.E.A.R. server up solely for the noob/inexperienced player. I don't play, but you may want to check it out.

You can also try asking a question on our forums @ http://undergroundgarage.net/forums/index.php

Last time I checked we had a F.E.A.R. section that was accessible to the public. Not sure if there's anything helpful in there, but it's worth a shot.

<--- too dedicated to Desert Combat to consider playing anything else.

We run a dedicated fear server for our fps junkies.

I get on ever few days, you just have to keep moving and pick a decent weapon.

Lower all of your settings.

You might need to be more specific as to why you're getting killed so often. I only play Quake/UT and switched to FEAR for about a week without any problems. Actually seemed a bit easy as far as tactical shooters go. So like I said, specifics?

Turn off the lighting and/or shadows. Some levels are too dark and turning this off will brighten everything up.

This game is mostly Close quarters combat so moving while firing won't be too much penalty.

I guess i the main problem is that i can't see crap... i guess i'll try tigersty1e's suggestions and hopefully i can see in the dark or something.

edit: i mean, i dunno, i'm pretty good at CS:Source and i played Quake 3 competetively in college so, it's not like i'm some FPS n00b or something...

It took me a couple matches to figure out how to play the game effectively. My advice would be to keep moving as quickly as possible and I prefer the assault rifle. Just ran at people and mow them down(they won't have a change at killing you). I usually get 3rd place or higher with this technique. Some people are very good at the game though.

Yeah, the thing you have to realize about FEAR is that you get taken down QUICK. 2-3 shots at most. You NEED to get the first shot in. I personally love that aspect of it, but it makes it hard for people to jump in and pick it up.

I played online a few hours when I got the retail.
Same problem.

I get killed instantly and have no clue what happened. I would just see guys dancing around me after I was dead.

I know a lot of them would get in close, hop like jackrabbits, and melee me to death in just a couple hits.

is it a game worth buying only for online play? I want a new FPS game and have played since 1v1 modem play with Duke Nukem through competitive play with SOF2 CTF.

I was considering getting this game, but then noticed the new quake is out in July.... or maybe q4?

fear looks like a great single player game tho?

Don't bother buying it, just download the free multiplayer here: http://www.joinfear.com/main. The single player is not worth your time IMO.

The thing that traumatized me the most about the FEAR MP, were the guys that just ran at you and kicked you in the head...bang, you're dead. I hated that and it happpened way too often for my liking. I probably just suck though...

Cheers,
KT

If you like it fast and furious -TOC-servers(The Other Crew) is insanely fun. Load this IP in your favorites 69.90.34.57:27900

I'm on a crappy ass monitor right now. Bleh, I can't even see background designs of webpages. I can play old games okay, (Deus Ex, Half-Life 1, Doom 2, etc.) but anything newer than Far Cry either looks like poop or I can't see at all. :(
I'll PM you when I get a new one thoug. ;)

EDIT: Sliding is a good technique. When you're reloading slide into your opponent. It's a little risky, but at least you can keep up your offensive. :)

Never stop running and mow people down close quarter. Learn to throw nades effectively (seeing shadows help). If you hear gunfire or see flashes in the next room, go ahead and chuck a nade. Recoil is never an issue in this game and even though it seems jumpier than even CS, it's very easy to run over people. You don't have to time shots just hold down the button and shoot until the guy is dead. If you're target is further away, crouch momentarily and pick em off. Never stop running! And kicking is your friend.

FEAR has a slide kick. Very useful in close quarters combat. Right click + crouch.
