Holy crap! Ever formatted 300G's?

I have 4 80G IDE Maxtor's that are spanned together so they show up as a single drive in windows. I started formatting the thing like 3 hours ago. I came back to check on the status and it's only at 9% :Q

Quick format will only work if the drive was formatted before, since they are newly joined to make 1 big drive regular format is the only way to go.

Next time if you need to format the /Q switch will work.

Formating 300G's is well worth the wait. Think of all the Mp3s, porn, apps, movies, pics, and game you can put on those babies.

I figured as such... I tried a few times to quick format but it just wouldn't allow me. Even canceled starting the full format to try and see if quick would work but to no avail...

So now it's slowly charging on... I know I know.. you guys feel sympathy for me 😛

You know the saying "go have a beer while the drive is formatting" Jesus at the time it takes to format 300 gigs you might want to go get a keg.

Well i was quickly building a new system with 80GB on it (new drive) and installed WinXP Pro OEM. It asked me to format to NTFS, being quick, i just went for it. It finished formatting in like 20 seconds? I was like WTH? Anyways it's still working fine. Does NTFS have some thing to format as you use the drive or something !!??!?

I'm using Win2k on the 9G SCSI drive which has all the OS and stuff...

Good news though... it's now at 31%!!! I should be finished before Sunday. 😕

That's why I love this place,I learn something new every time I visit 🙂🙂😀

Exactly what I was thinking😉

You should've done RAID0 🙂 🙂 spanning vs raid0... if a drive fails the entire set is "bad"... but the RAID0 has the speed 🙂

If you have Norton's Ghost program, you should create an image of the 300Gs right after you format. Then, when you need to format again, you can just ghost the blank image right back on. It should be a heck of a lot faster.
