Ok there is some idiot rice boy racing (well trying to) around my neighbour hood...

Seriously his car is extremely high pitched....maybe it's just the exhaust system, but honestly I've heard lawnmower engines that have a deeper rumble than that thing....

What the hell is with the sound on that thing...is it suppose to be that high pitched and annoying, or is he actually running an 80 cubic inch 3 cylinder?

Edit: sorry this isn't suppose to be a generic ricer bashing...I don't actually mind them...his car is just really pissing me off...he's gone around the area like 40 times in the last hour

I'm honestly curious...is it desireable to sound extremely high pitched or what? I've always liked a nice deep rumble out of an engine...

Leave the lawnmowers out of this, they don't deserve to be disrepected by being placed in the same post as ricers!

And yes, I am Asian... but I think ricers (well, most of em) are stupid... I wouldn't spend all that money trying to make those things faster... might as well get a better car... duh.

And if the damn thing doesn't have the horsepower, why in the world would you even BOTHER to make it sound like its got a big engine!!!

Now if its a BMW or a Lexus i'll respect that... but civics are one of the worst... SI or otherwise.

RANT RANT RANT!!!

bleuiko, I agree on you on most parts.I dont mind ppl who actully fix up the engine...I use to think with all the money they spend on their cars why not just get a better one...Its kind of like overclocking..ppl send lots of money on cooling, when they could just buy a faster cpu...but ppl do it..same concept

That noise is more than likely Turbo. You can hear vrooom PSSSH, like its blowing off steam. It's a high pitch noise then PSSSSSSSH. That's turbo, and the blow off valves.

The turbo might be it...of course he's stopped now so I can't really listen....

<< Ever watched formula 1 racing? oh man ya their high pitched, that must mean their bad, slow pieces of crap! >>

Isn't that just becuase they run at such high RPM? Most street cars don't match RPM with a Formula1 car...

I suppose the little 4 banger might pin 15k rpm...but somehow I doubt it turbo charged or no..

Edit: Wow is it 23k RPM? i though it was like 15k, shows what I know.

F1 cars are high pitched because they're reving at 23,000rpm.

rice dudes are running at 3000rpm. dumb ricers always redlining at 5800rpm... AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA

it could be a couple of things. in order of price: muffler, air intake, turbo(bov). more likely than not you're hearing a "race" muffler. (the watermelon shooters) they're meant for bigger engines, as it causes them to rumble and vibrate, giving them a more domestic sound. but it sounds like a whine on a 4 banger.

call the cops and watch what happens... :D

Ticket for disturbing the neighborhood and most likely exhibition of speed (very pricy)... my roommate is a racer type with a Civic SI (the standard purpleish blue of course) and he gets that and "fix-up" tickets lol

Actually, I believe most formula one engines max out at about 18K rpm.....

Turbocharger on the whole don't whine, superchargers do. Turbo's whistle as they spool up, but you usually cant even hear 'em at cruise :)

like i said, it's probably the muffler. cheapest mod. kind of like having a baseball card rub against the spokes of your bike as a kid... you weren't going any faster, but it sure sounded like it. :D

Hey guys, ricers don't redline at anything under at least 6k. I've got a '91 Accord, it'll hit 6250, and fuel shut-off is probably about 6500. Stock Civics can turn 10k+ if you change the "chip". Don't foget that Integras' go about 7.5K. Just for your reference purposes.

For the record, my car is NOT a ricer. I just bought a new suspension for it, for the handling, not the 2.5" drop. I'm only going down 1.25". And yes, I do intend to change the exhaust. What you guys don't realize is, is that if you change the entire system, starting with headers, you gain about 10-15 hp. My car's only got 120. That's noticeable.

Ummm, You can check the SI article on the 2001 Formula 1 cars and the brand new '01 engines redline at 19,000RPM.

What's really sad is my '87 Toyota Camry POS redlines @ 6000RPM.

Are you sure on that? I'm no honda expert but I didn't think that civics turned that high.....

Definitely not a base model civic. '01 Civics redlines under 7k. The s2000 redlines at 9k.

That's true for the LS and GS Integras but, the GSR redlines at 8K and the Type R redlines at 8,500. The easiest way to increase HP on an Integra is to put an intake on it. After that the exhaust is the best bet. Why people seem to like the loud exhaust is a mystery to me but, then so are some of the other cosmetic "upgrades".

I'm not an expert on Civics but, I'm pretty sure that the engine will not last too long running at 10K+ RPM's. The Civic engine isn't really meant to be a performance engine even the SI. It's super efficient and it does provide excellent performance but, 10K RPMs?

Some of these guys are really love their cars. I have one friend who has a 4 door Accord that he dropped a Prelude engine in. Everything is custom (even the requisite dual exhaust) including a NOS setup that fires a 60 shot. It's pretty fun to ride in.

What year is his car? I fear that sometime in the not too distant future I may need an engine rebuild, which at that point, might as well drop in a buffer engine if possible.

Ewwww... high pitch noise.

I can't even stand my puny 3.5" Maxtor's 7200rpm spinning. ;)
