HOLY CRAP!! Alpha ROCKS!!!

I know this is a little OT, but I had to share this with people who actually know what the hell I'm talking about. (All my friends just stare blankly at me)

Just got my new Alpha PAL8045 w/ the Sunon 50CFM fan installed on my new ABIT KR7A-133/AMD-XP2100+, (w/ AS3) and had no idea how awesome this HSF really is! I had read all the reviews and stuff, but never bit due to the high cost. Well, I figured with all the money I just spent on the new setup, I might as well get a HSF to match. Using MBM5, my temps are sitting at around 37C full load, (Flight Sim 2002 Full Bore @ 1024x768, that's all the GF3Ti200 can handle). I've NEVER seen temps lower than around 45-47C even with my old mobo and Volcano 6cu+.

I guess my point to all this is, if you want serious cooling without a whole lot of noise, (the Sunon is WAY quieter than the Volcano I had, suprisingly!) this HSF is WELL worth the money!! I know this is all probably old news to most of you, but what can I say, I'm behind the times a bit....

😀

OMG~

you're using a 50cfm on your alpha?? Are you sure you dont need an earplug???

Most people including myself agree that even a 24cfm panaflos do their job.

My kr7a @ 145Mhz FSB runs happily at 48C.

But yah, Alphas are pretty good.

lol yeah, I wanted some serious cooling, but I've heard all the horror stories about the Delta fans, so I stayed away from one of those. But you'd really be surprised how quiet this thing is. Like I said, it's quieter than both the Volcano 6cu+ and Volcano 7+ that I had before. With the side panel on my case, I can barely hear it. Not to mention, it's a lower pitched hum, so your ear hardly picks it up at all. 🙂 I'm never buying another HSF as long as I live!!! (Well, at least this week....)

😀

i have an alpha for the p4 which is basically the same design. the quality isn't as good as the top of the line swiftech IMO but it's still a good heat sink. i slapped on a 50 cfm fan and noticed ZERO temp difference than with my 24 cfm panaflo, so i switched back. currently have the panaflo running @ 7v so it's even slower, but temps are still ok and it's all quiet

i highly doubt those are diode temps.

Couldn't tell ya, I'm just relating the MBM5 results. Either way, it's a helluva lot cooler than my old setup. 😀

I have the same 50cfm Sunon fan. Yeah, its loud, but its not oppressively loud. Its very easy to ignore, I think. Now the 84cfm Vantec fan, now that is loud! The Sunon is whisper quiet compared to that monster.

Actually the Sunon seems pretty quiet, even comparing it in side by side ear-o-meter tests with the lower speed Sunons and upper range Panaflos. I prefer the mid-speed 39cfm ones myself, but with an internally mounted heatsink fan, you'd have a hard time telling the difference in blind testing.

Oh... the Alphas DO rock... heh

Where do you guys find these super high CFM fans? According to Sunon and Delta's website, the highest performing 12VDC 80x80x25mm fans they have are the Sunon KDE1208PTV1-8A, delivering 42.5CFM@3200RPM, and the Delta HUB0812HH, delivering 50.36CFM@4000RPM.

got the whole setup at www.frozencpu.com

😀

Goi, a lot of the manufacturers do not list the extreme high output fans. The Sunon 50 cfm fan has the model number KD1208PTBX-6A. The Delta is FFB0812SHE for the 68 cfm version. The Tornado is actually Sunon model number PMD1208PMB1-A, at 84.1 cfm.

Woah woah woah...hold on just a sec, these figures are for their 80mm fans? Geez, and I thought 50CFM was top of the line and borderline crazy

you think your 8045 is good, just try a thermalright SLK-800!!!!! you could probably get just as much cooling with that using a 24cfm or something
