The whole idea is not what it does stock - but what it does when modded.

*yawn*. You can make any car fast with enough money. $400k was spent on that R34. I'll take Hennessey Viper or Lingenfelter Vette over that rice.

Theres a point where lots of hp and rwd becomes useless, the solution is awd with the skyline.

yet most of the top supercars are still RWD, so it has to have *something* going for it

AWD is gaining popularity among supercars though...Gallardo, Murcielago, 911 Turbo, R8, Veyron, to name just a few.

About the whole Manual vs Sequential transmission debate...5th Gear recently put 2 Audi TTs head to head in a track shootout...one was a standard manual while the other had a DSG sequential gearbox...the DSG was consistently faster than the manual on the track since it's 2 clutches could hold a gear and pre-select the next gear for lightning-fast shifts.

All of which are owned/made by VW/Porsche...

No doubt that the DSG is faster than a regular manual, but it will never be the same as having three pedals and full control of the car.

I have seen that Mine's vid...it's funny when people say how do you know how fast it is with just the tach being shown 🙂

Freaking revs like mad.

What amazes me is that it revs like an NA car, the engine response is amazing. I can only imagine what it is like to drive it...

i don't know many NA cars that can go 4-7k+ in a couple secs in 3rd gear and higher.

NA vs FI is a big problematic debate. At low boost you get all the performance you had NA + more. It's once you lower compression considerably and then tune for all high end that you get lag...but the 1/4 mile time and speed goes through the roof.

The big advantage the R32-R34 had was the engine was bulletproof and could rev insanely. People talk vettes and vipers a lot in comparision to the skyline and it's 1000+hp potential....however it's not limited to staying under 6-7k rpms.

Man, that car is so, bleh. Nothing exciting about it (style, looks wise). I'll take the Supra any day of the week over a Skyline.

Throw a couple typeR stickers on it and a bigger wing, it should meet your style requirement.

What does N/A engline means?

North American!

... just kidding 😀

Naturally Aspirated. It means the engine doesn't use any sort of Forced Induction like turbochargers or superchargers.

As for GT500, I don't keep up on racing well enough to know that.

and what is gt500 class?

GT500 is a JGTC (Japanese GT Car Championship) class.

Here is the Wikipedia entry:

"GT500

The top class in Super GT, GT500, is dominated by the Big 3 Japanese automakers: Toyota (Supra / Lexus SC430 (new for 2006)), Honda (NSX) and Nissan (Fairlady Z replacing the Skyline GTR) with some privateer teams running Ferrari, Lamborghini, or other European marques.

Regulations in GT500 are considerably looser than most GT classifications, and teams are free to change engines with other models made by the manufacturer, change the alignment of the engine, or add forced-induction kits to models which do not normally have it. The chassis may also be heavily modified, with lightweight tube-frame 'clips' being allowed forward and back of the main cockpit, although the car must overall look similar to its road-going variant. These regulations result in cars which are possibly the fastest GT racing cars in the world. The rationale for this was to allow manufacturers to field competitive cars without having to spend large amounts of money for homologation versions of the race car's road car counterparts (although some companies, notably Honda and Nissan have still developed homologation specials).

In recent years however, rule changes in both GT500 and FIA GT1 (aimed at eventually allowing both classes to compete with each other in the future) have brought the cars closer to each other, although GT500 cars still have a notable advantage in terms of aerodynamics - an FIA GT1 spec Maserati MC12 entered (and later withdrawn) by Team Goh was losing at least 1 second in the corners during (2006) pre-season testing at the Suzuka Circuit. Some traditional sports-car fans spurn these cars as being outside the limits of 'acceptable' modifications.

Electronic aids such as ABS, Traction Control and Stability control are not allowed even if fitted to the road going variant and carbon fiber brakes are prohibited. There are also restrictions regarding placement and size of aerodynamic aids such as wings and spoilers. The choice of tires is also varied with Bridgestone, Yokohama, Dunlop, Kumho, Michelin and Hankook (new for 2006) available to teams."

It's about function on a GT-R not trying to out wing your buddies.

The supra is cited as a pretty plain car as well.

and for the record that NSX is in a top class, the skyline is in total street car form.
