ITHACA -- A Cornell University lacrosse player died Wednesday evening after being struck in the chest with the ball during a game against Binghamton University.
Senior George Boiardi, 22, was pronounced dead at 6:44 p.m., shortly after being transported to Cayuga Medical Center, said Simeon Moss, spokesman for Cornell University. Moss said the official cause of death had not been determined.
I went to BU (it was known as State University of NY or SUNY Binghamton then - graduated in '92). This is just bizarre and tragic. My sympathies are split between the family of the student who died and the BU player that took the "fatal shot". He is probably feeling awful even though he did nothing wrong.
