Paypal will never get my checking account number. Good luck tamade, but I seriously doubt you will get your money back. :(

These issues happen (generally) because the user inadvertently gave their email/password combination to someone they shouldn't have. Our site has not been hacked.

Lets spotlight that. Money just doesnt get randomly stolen from paypal accounts, the user has to do something stupid.

You need to contact you bank. They will take care of the problem regardless of what Paypal decides to do.

I repeat I didn't reply to those scam emails or login on some other page besides www.paypal.com. I am not that kind that don't know jack s**t about computers and the internet. I am absolutely sure that I did not compromise my password in anyway. Anyways I'll update you all of the outcome. Thanks

p/s looks like the majority here thinks that I did something stupid and that's why I got my checking acct into negative. Opinion is like an a**hole; everyone has it and it stinks.

That does suck.

I've had an account since April 2000. I haven't had a problem yet (129 transactions).

I don't think that you necessarily did something stupid... however, another possibility is that you have been to another site and used a password that happens to be the same as your paypal password. Fortunately paypal's security is pretty reasonable (supporting password lockouts, etc) but they can't stop a user from doing something that makes breaking into their account easier.

Your login to paypal is your email address. Many sites also use your email address somewhere in the sign-up. If you then used the same password as you do on paypal it only takes putting 2 + 2 together to figure out how to hack your paypal account.

rule of thumb

Make sure that passwords for things such as bank accounts are not the same as ones that you routinely use at other websites, this is a common mistake people make and they are putting themselves at tremendous risk.

While I understand the very valid concerns presented, there is no need to remove your bank accounts. Unauthorized transactions are covered by PayPal. I am also advising users to be wary because there have been numerous scam emails going around lately, so I am cautioning users to make sure they are logging in at www.paypal.com.

You seem to think that 10 days to someone who has had their checking account cleared out isn't a big deal. That could take an enormous amount of time to 'fix' all the other problems caused by the dominoe effect (heck some banks charge $25 a day if you bounce a check, this guy might be sitting on $250 is fees, plus fees to those places he bounced checks to because of this). Do you really really think that is worth it? (Also going off to remove my bank account)

Ya know what else is weird about this theft? There is nothing I know of on Paypal that would actually show a thief how much money is in your bank account. So it's quite odd that they knew exactly how much you had and were able to withdraw it all in one shot.

There have been so many of these stories posted here, I cannot believe people still keep money where Paypal can get at it.

I don't know how paypal even gets away with this blatant lack of security.

Happy to see you got your money back. The banks must have a way of tracking where the money went right? Did you find out who haxored you and stole your dinero? You should try to, and then we can all beat his haxor ass.

Just have your bank block any withdrawals by PayPal... only deposits could be made... itll cost you around $35... but better $35 than $1500.

Another update

Since my bank took the money back from paypal, paypal tried to take back the money from my credit card. Too bad it was an unsuccessful attempt. I already called my bank and credit card telling them that no more paypal transaction. What a bunch bs!! Anyways I did contact the company that allegedly took my money; they told me there is no such person.

Thats why I would not "verify" my Pay Pal account by submitting a checking account. Now all I have to worry about is them attempting to tap my credit card without my authorization. :Q

You guys are getting pretty funny here. Paypal is a bank and as a bank or any other credit/finance institution they have to follow pretty strict rules as they are under federal scrutiny. You guys make it sound like they are some mom and pop fly by night rip-off operation.

I'm sure that errors have been made, just like errors happen with any bank... but I think a lot of this crap gets blown way out of proportion. I have moved thousands through paypal and never had a problem.

It is sad how fast Paranoia spreads around here. I'd also love to point out something that everyone is conveniently ignoring:

Hi tamade,

Contacting the bank to refute the charges, as well as filing a claim with us, is eventually going to cause more issues for you. I did advise you what the process is, as well as how long it takes. A representative contacted you the same day you contacted me about filing the claim.

The only way a transaction would have occurred against your bank account is if you were logged in, or if someone else gained access to your account with the email/password combination. I did post a recent warning about a site trying to gather PayPal information, so I would urge users to ALWAYS log in at www.paypal.com. In addition, please do not use the same email/password combinations you use at another site.

Hi skace,

There is no way that a party would know how much you would have in your bank account by accessing your PayPal account.
