It doesn't look real because it doesn't match your internal picture of what reality is.
Just like you'd have to look twice at a severed arm in your front yard. It doesn't fit, so doubt is cast on its veracity.

That being said, I have no problem beleiving it's real.

It doesn't look real to me because the guardrail would have to be going perfectly straight to do that kinda damage without shattering any of the windows. Also, if you look in front of the car, you can see an irregularity in the guardrail which could indicate bad photochopping. None of these points are conclusive, it could be real. Just puts some doubt in my mind.

I'll see if I can find the rest of the set. The end of the guardrail is mangled and there is blood in the cabin.

Reminds me of that pic of the C5 or C6 vette hitting the back of a stopped 18 wheeler trailer. Car went under the rear, just a big red spot on the back of the trailer where the guy's head was and brain matter all over the road.

I was thinking more the fact that engines and firewalls arent made to crumple and give way. Also guard rails aren't designed to skewer cars, they usually put something in the way to avoid those kinds of crashes anyway.

if you look at the end of a guardrail it just had a rounded part on it ment to deflect cars to prevent them from being squered however if you hit it hard enough it wont happen, its also possiable to hit them at the seam and just get unlucky

I'm not a holy carp, but I looked anyway.

My response? Damn! I thought guard rails had the little end ramps to prevent situations such as that.

I work in a law firm where they do insurance defence and am constantly having to look at and scan some of the worst car accident pics ever... trust me there's plenty o' blood

Odd, you'd think you'd see blood.

Maybe they were "ghost riding?" I used to do that with my bike all the time when i was in grade school.

Who the hell "ghost rides" a car? Sure, I used to do it on my bike all the time. You set up a jump and send it off it and watch as it sails through the air. It was a cheep, $50 K-mart bike taht could take any beating I gave it. Not a several thousand dollar car.

They're not designed that way, but if they're constructed incorrectly, you might as well line the roads with huge steak knives. There was a huge special about this on 20/20 a couple years ago.

Notice that the gardrail is bent. Where are the skid marks, the tire tracks as the car pivited sideways, bending the guardrail. Also, underneath the guardrail in front of the car there appears to be a curb, where a curb would likely not be.
