HOLY CACA X2 3800+ and ECS nForce4 Mobo = $379

It doesn't make a lot of sense to me to bundle a high quality cpu with a low quality motherboard. I mean, those people buying an Athlon 64 X2 would probably being doing the cpu a great injustice to it to stick it in an ECS motherboard. ECS motherboards are ok budget boards, but if I'm spending a lot of money on a cpu I would definitely aim higher. That said, it IS an NF4 based board, so it may be ok.
 
The ECS NF4 board is actually very good. Especially considering the price.

Remember not everyone will be overclocking or trying to squeeze every last MHz out of it. 😀
 
i'd think you'd be able to move the board pretty easily on fs/ft for ~50. 330ish for a 3800 x2?

seems like a no brainer to me, a no moneyer 🙂
 
I just picked up the X2 3800+ retail for the same price a week ago... no MB.
One thing, the chip I got is an E6 rev, so if you are specifically looking for the E4 version, it'll probably be a gamble.
 
Thanks AkumaX, you have made my day, I have been watching prices since the 3800+ X2 came out, the mb is even PCI-express, so it will work with my new video card, shame it doesn't have firewire...

I know what you mean about the ECS boards - had several - really hit and miss. One will be rock solid for years while another of the same model will be nothing but trouble.

I don't know about the 939 version but I have the nforce4-a754 and it has been totally surprising in not only its stability but also its overclocking. Good voltage adjustment with basic RAM adjustments. I've run several processors on it at full 250FSB (that's the max) with nothing but good results.

It does makes sense to "go all the way" but for some getting this board basically for free might just get them to go ahead and purchase.

I'm still thinking about it because the deal at outpost.com looks to still be in effect. I did hear of one user who was experiencing problems with this combo. I think he said it was "stuttering" (not in games, but general use) but you never know. There's not been a board manufactured that didn't give some user somewhere trouble, right?

 
Awesome find. May be now I can sell my a64 venices and settle for this. Or make a backup machine with one of those venice to run at stock speed with CnQ enabled to save some electricity bill. 😛 Great find.
 
ECS = Eternal Critical Status which yields an "Oh god not ECS again" expression hehe...the chip is great but ECS ah man...
 
Agreed - I've built three folders in the last several years, with ECS/AMD combos, bought dirt cheap because of the CPU. The worst one was the first one with a manual that did not match the board and piss-poor silk screening so I could not read the jummpers. That's been running about 5 years, even did a brain transplant on it from a 1Ghz Duron to an 1800 Applebred.
They DO NOT overclock worth a darn, but for the price (essentially $18 over Outpost's X2 3800) it seems worth it.
 
I already have a s939 board, but I'm considering this just so I can sell the board for a few $$ and save compared to just buying a x2 3800+
